FEATURES

Spacious Student Lounges
The center will expand from its current 39,000 square feet to more than 89,000 square feet of space. Much of this will feature spacious gathering areas and lounges where students can hang out and visit with friends or hold events such as concerts, comedy shows, poetry readings, campus lectures or receptions.

Expanded Dining Area
Not your typical college dining hall, the University Center’s new dining area will feature food stations where students, faculty, and staff can choose from a variety of options, catered by Sodexo food services. This new area will more than double capacity.

Jazzman’s Cafe
The University Center’s first floor will provide a coffee house environment where students can enjoy Jazzman’s specialty coffees, smoothies, fresh baked goods, sandwiches and salads, while meeting, relaxing, and listening to music.

Student and Community Meeting Space
A new 5,000 square foot ballroom will be added on the upper level of the University Center, providing students and the community with an upscale venue for events. The Center will also feature two additional indoor meeting rooms and activity space outdoors to accommodate increasing requests for meeting space.

Barnes & Noble Book Store
The current dining and food service areas will be converted into the Shawnee State Bookstore, operated by Barnes & Noble. It’s location in the University Center will be more convenient for students.

Game Room
Expanded and renovated game and programming areas will be near the new University Center Café on the first floor.

Access to Key Student Services
The new University Center will provide easy access to the important services that students want and need the most. The Office of Admissions will relocate from the Administration Building to the new University Center. Student Government, as well as other student organizations, will have new office and work space in the Center. Offices currently located in the University Center, including Student Affairs, Housing, Counseling, Career Services and Financial Aid, will remain in the Center.

Eco-friendly
As Shawnee State continues to focus on energy and resource conservation, the new University Center will include a geothermal energy management system that will provide an eco-friendly method of cooling. The new system will initially serve the University Center and the Advanced Technology Center. This method of cooling will eventually be expanded to serve other areas on campus and may provide an additional source of water for the irrigation of campus grounds.
