Department of Teacher Education The
Department Teacher of Education at Shawnee State University is
scheduled for an accreditation review this fall by the National
Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Federal
regulations require that accrediting agencies allow for public
comment on the qualifications of institutions or programs under
consideration for initial or continuing accreditation. Both NCATE
and Shawnee State University recognize that graduates, parents,
schools, and community organizations have valuable perspectives on
the quality of the programs that prepare teachers and other school
personnel. Interested
parties can submit written testimony on the Department of Teacher
Education at Shawnee State University to:
Comments
must address substantive matters related to the quality of
professional education programs offered at Shawnee State University,
and should specify the respondent's relationship, if any, to the
institution (i.e., graduate, present or former faculty member,
employer of graduates, etc.). Copies of all correspondence received
will be sent to Shawnee State University for comment prior to the
review.
No anonymous testimony will be considered. Letters of
comment should be received by July 20, 2001.

Visiting
International Relations Professor
At SSU During Spring Quarter
Dr. Farhang Rajaee (left) and Dr.
Farhang Rajaee, associate professor of political science and
humanities at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, will be a
visiting professor of international relations during spring quarter,
beginning April 2 at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth. Rajaee,
who holds a Ph.D. in foreign affairs from the University of
Virginia, a master of public administration degree from the
University of Oklahoma, and a bachelor of arts in political science
from the University of Tehran, will teach two courses at SSU—Globalization
and the Human Condition (GOVT-399) and Global Politics (GOVT-370). Students
who take GOVT-399, a course designed to explore the impact
globalization has had on the human condition, will get the unique
opportunity to take a course using a book that was written by the
instructor. Rajaee’s Globalization on Trial; the Human Condition and
the Information Revolution, a book that was published in 2000, is
one of the textbooks that will be utilized in the course.
GOVT-370 is a
course designed to introduce students to the complex realm of global
politics through an examination of its basic features, an anatomy of
the principal actors, and the arena of international political life. Dr.
John H. Lorentz, director of the Center for International Programs
and Activities (CIPA) and professor of history at SSU, says that
this is the first distinguished visiting professor at Shawnee State
University in the field of international relations and that the
presence of Dr. Rajaee will add considerably to the developing
international relations major at SSU. “Dr.
Rajaee is a gentleman who is very highly-respected in his field and
very well-published,” he said. In
addition to Carleton University, Rajaee, who is originally from
Iran, has taught at the Center for Diplomatic Training in Tehran,
Iran; Beheshti (National University in Tehran; the College of
International Studies; Tehran University; and Imam Sadeq University.
He has written 16 books and has had 24 articles published in
scholarly journals. Lorentz
said Rajaee will be working on a book while he is at SSU.
“The
University will certainly be acknowledged in this book,” he said.
“Dr. Rajaee is a person who will bring a great deal of
scholarly talent to the University and recognition that SSU is
maturing as a university.” |
