Vietnam Veterans Award
Scholarship to Shawnee State University Freshman
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1006, in South
Shore, Ky., recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Shawnee
State University freshman Katie Meenach, of Greenup, Ky.
Meenach’s grandfather Charlie Byrd was a Vietnam veteran.
She is the daughter of Brian and Ruth Meenach. In the photo,
from left, are Michael Hughes, SSU director of Counseling
and Psychological Services and Associate Vietnam Veterans of
America liaison, Meenach, Emory Wilson, president of the
Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1006, and Ron McClurg,
board member of the organization. Applicants for the
scholarship must be a child or grandchild of a Vietnam
veteran entering the freshman year at SSU, have a GPA of 3.0
or better and demonstrate financial need. The award is a
total of $1,000 for two academic semesters, $500 given out
each semester, and renewable for up to four years as long as
the recipient remains in good academic standing.
