Shawnee State University Art Professor wins Gold
When Lane Raiser, art professor at Shawnee State
University, enters a competition, he wins. His latest
victory was a gold medal and $1,000 from the Ohio Watercolor
Society’s 32nd Annual Juried Exhibition with his watercolor,
“Seed Faith.”
Artists from several states competed in the juried show. His
painting is one of a series he is doing where ice is his
inspiration. Raiser had never entered any shows until last
year and he has sold every painting he has ever done since
he was in art school except for the two that are in shows
right now.
“Seed Faith” is at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center in Troy,
Ohio, and it will be in a tour to several cities around the
state until May 2010.
“We are very fortunate to have Lane here at Shawnee,” said
Matt Cram, art professor at SSU. “He is one of the top
watercolor artists in the country.”
His painting, “Axis Mundi,” was a first place winner in a
New York show last year, a gold medal winner in the Ohio
Watercolor Society show last year and winner in a national
show. The painting has been an award winner in every show
entered since New York City. The painting was delivered to
Louisville recently for another juried national exhibition
coming up this fall.
“I’m working on another new ice-based image in my studio at
home, but with the start-up of another semester, studio time
in the near future is pretty limited,” Raiser said. “I’d
really like to have that new work ready to show by spring.
