            Life at Shawnee State University extends beyond the campus and into the community, particularly the downtown area where shops, restaurants, banks and local entertainment are located.
            To welcome students to the area and show all that is available within walking distance, many local businesses are offering special discounts SSU students during “Explore Our Stores,” a one-day event on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Students will start and end the tour at the University Center. A list of all participants will be provided to students. Blue “bear tracks” will be painted on the sidewalks leading to participating stores.
           Students who participate and get three signatures at three different stores will be entered into a drawing for a shopping spree and they will receive a special gift.
Nearly 4,000 students will be at Shawnee State University in August with about 800 living on campus. “Explore Our Stores” is sponsored by SSU and Main Street Portsmouth.
