New
counselor at Shawnee State University to work with drug and
alcohol issues
Alan Siebel, a new counselor at Shawnee State
University’s Office of Counseling and Psychological
Services, will be working mainly with alcohol and drug
issues.
Siebel is originally from Parkersburg, W.Va., and he
received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall
University.
For the past nine years, he has been working as a counselor
in the southern Ohio area, most recently with the Southern
Ohio Behavioral Health.
One of his goals is instituting an Alcoholics Anonymous or
Narcotics Anonymous program on campus.
“In AA or NA, students can help each other and support each
other,” Siebel said. “One of the goals is setting up a
12-step program here. I also want to educate people on the
issues with alcohol and drugs and I am available for
presentations.”
He is offering several workshops and presentations: “The
Truth About Addiction,” “The Do’s and Don’ts When Dealing
with a Friend or Loved One Impacted by Drug and Alcohol
Addiction,” “Just what are some students using these days to
get high? Signs and Symptoms a person exhibits when using
these chemicals” and “The Impact of Alcohol and Drug
Addiction on Friends and Family.”
To discuss or arrange for a presentation, contact Siebel at
the Office of Counseling and Psychological Services at
Shawnee State University at (740) 351-3848.
