Upward Bound students experience college life at Shawnee
State University
Students from several Scioto County high schools are
living in the dorms and having classes at Shawnee State
University from June 15 to July 19 to experience college
life first hand.
During the week, students live in the dorms at SSU and
have a schedule of classes including computers,
geometry, English, science, French and ceramic art.
Students also have personal development and ACT
preparation classes.
Treva Williams, county director for the OSU Extension
office was the guest educator on Wednesday, June 18 for
a Wants and Needs program. In the class, students
learned how to distinguish the difference in wants and
needs when they go out on their own.
Activities are planned every evening for the time they
are on campus including movies, sports nights, open mic
nights, dances, a scavenger hunt, euchre classes and
tournaments, among other games.
Also, during the week, students take trips to various
sites including a Cincinnati Reds game, The Beach
WaterPark, Ohio University and Earthship. Every weekend,
the students go home and return on Monday.
