Artist and Shawnee State University adjunct professor Charles Haskins opened a one-man show at the Boneyfiddle Art Center on Tuesday, Dec. 6 with some of his new paintings that will be featured in a children's book he is planning. His work will be on display at the art center until Saturday, Dec. 31.
Haskins' work combines elements of storytelling and humor to express his observations on life and art. The book series is "The Adventures of Karlie" and covers the exploits of a heroic child and the paintings illustrate her encounters with creatures like the Rock and Roll Demon, the Cactus Brothers and the Igottcha Bird.
Haskins graduated from SSU and received his masters in painting from East Tennessee State University. His work can be seen in the Rochester Contemporary Art Center (NY) and the Reccee Museum at the East Tennessee State University among others and in private collections.
