‘A Christmas Carol’ to be performed at Vern Riffe Center for
the Arts
The timely classic “A Christmas Carol” will be presented at
7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in the Vern Riffe Center for
the Arts at Shawnee State University, performed by the
Nebraska Theatre Caravan from Omaha, Neb.
The
Nebraska Theatre Caravan was created in 1975 and was a joint
project between the Omaha Community Playhouse and the
Nebraska Arts Council. It was designed for professional
performers to perform in Omaha and other states.
The
play is a celebrated version of Charles Dickens’ “A
Christmas Carol,” and it was adapted for the stage by
Charles Jones of the Omaha Community Playhouse.
The
story was written in 1843, and the setting of the play is
during the Industrial Revolution.
In the
play, Ebenezer Scrooge receives visits from three different
ghosts on Christmas Eve. The three ghosts are the ghost of
Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present and the ghost
of Christmas future. These ghosts help him see the true
spirit of Christmas.
“The
show has many special effects and will delight audience
members of all ages,” said Carl Daehler executive director
of the Vern Riffe Center. “We especially encourage children
to come and if they wish, to wear their pajamas to the
performance. They will have a great time.”
Ticket
prices are $24-34 with family and group discounts available.
For more information or to purchase tickets, contact The
McKinley Box Office (740) 351-3600. Tickets also are
available for purchase at www.sopaa.org or at any
Ticketmaster outlet. The play is sponsored by the Southern
Ohio Medical Center.
