Shawnee State Observes National Hunger
and Homelessness Awareness Week
Maureen Cadogan, Director of Operation Safety Net: Scioto
County Homeless Shelter, will be speaking at Shawnee State
University in observation of National Hunger and
Homelessness Awareness Week from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday,
Nov. 16 in the University Center, Room 230.
Cadogan will be talking about hunger and homelessness in
Scioto County, the population Operation Safety Net serves
and she will discuss some of the stereotypes of
homelessness. There will be time for open discussion and
questions.
National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November
14-21) is a national endeavor to promote education, action,
and awareness about hunger and homelessness.
On Wednesday, Nov. 17, the Homeless Shelter is sponsoring
its annual Homeless Rally on the shelter’s front porch at
615 Eighth St., Portsmouth.
Friday is “Skip a Meal Day” sponsored by the Homeless
Shelter. Instead of purchasing lunch that day, pack a lunch
and donate the money that would be spent on lunch to the
shelter to benefit hungry and homeless in Scioto County. For
more information, contact the Homeless Shelter at (740)
353-4085.
Also on Tuesday, a documentary “Easy Street” will be shown
from 7 to 9 p.m. in the University Center, Room 215. It is a
feature-length film that documents one year in the lives of
homeless people in St. Petersburg, Fla. The viewer sees and
hears, first hand, how people scratch out an existence on
the streets of America’s urban centers. To see the film, a
$2 donation or two cans of non-perishable food items are
requested.

Homelessness Awareness Week, contact Nikki Karabinis at
