Shawnee State University Women’s Center and Center for Community Service Host Volunteer Fair

            Shawnee State University’s Women’s Center and the Center for Community Service will be hosting the first “Giving Thanks by Giving Back” volunteer fair on Tuesday, Nov. 16 from noon until 5 p.m. in the University Center lobby.
            “We’re just setting up a forum for community organizations and campus organizations to come together to bring information about their organizations, volunteer needs and to give them an opportunity to talk to students who are looking for community service opportunities,” said Ann Linden, interim director of the Women’s Center.
            The American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Hospice and many other organizations will be on hand to talk to SSU students about volunteering.
            The student who came up with the idea to bring these groups together was Christina Jones, English major at SSU and a member of the Women’s Center Advisory Committee.
            “We want to build a bridge between the community and students,” Jones said. “We want this to be a way for students to talk to the organizations, find out what kind of help the organizations need, and find out hours that the organizations need people to volunteer.”
            Jones said that both the Women’s Center and the Center for Community Service hope to make this an annual event.
