Shawnee State University Holds 18th
Annual Veterans Recognition Day
Shawnee State University will be holding its 18th annual
Veteran’s Recognition Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on
Wednesday, Nov. 10. The event will once again be taking
place in the University Center this year. The theme is
“Women in the Military.”
Some of
the displays that will be available during this event
include the U.S. Historical Flags Display, Lock, Stock and
Barrel Gun Shop Military Weapons Display, SSU Veterans Wall,
Orville Galloway World War II Display, the Civil Air Patrol,
Gary McGraw Civil War Display, Ohio Army National Guard
Weapons Display, M3C—“Letters to Veterans,” various veterans
services and several veterans organizations.
Antique
military jeeps/vehicles and 1191st Engineer Company
equipment will both be on the University Center west lawn
for exhibit.
Along
with the displays that will be available for attendees to
view, a Recognition Ceremony will take place from noon to
12:30. The featured speaker for this ceremony will be
Command Sgt./ Major Verna Henderson of the 16th Engineer
Brigade, Ohio Army National Guard.
The
Clark Planetarium in the Advanced Technology Center will be
showing “The Lioness” at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. The film
is based on a group of female soldiers, mechanics, supply
clerks and engineers who end up fighting alongside the
Marines in some of the bloodiest counterinsurgency battles
of the Iraq War to become female combat veterans.
