The Home for Aged Women Scholarship awarded to Several Students at Shawnee State University


            The Shawnee State University Scholarship Committee awarded several students the 2009-10 Home for Aged Women Scholarship of $200.
            Recipient Natasha Walk, daughter of William and Kimberly Walk, of Minford, Ohio, in Scioto County is a 2008 graduate of Minford High School and a returning student to SSU. In high school, she was a member of National Honor Society, girls basketball team, and Bible Club. She was a Big Sister and a teacher’s aide. Walk is a member of the Shawnee State Honors Program and she is pursuing a degree in radiology. She plans to become a radiologist and then further her career into ultrasound.
            Recipient Samantha Taylor, daughter of Jessica and Scott Taylor, of South Shore, Ky., in Greenup County, is a 2008 graduate of Greenup County High School. In high school she was a member of All-American Scholar, FEA, Spanish Club and manager for the varsity boys basketball team. Taylor is majoring in biology.
            Recipient Brittney Sloas, of Portsmouth, Ohio, in Scioto County, is a 2007 graduate of Minford High School and a returning SSU student. In high school she was in volleyball and basketball. She is pursuing a degree in Health Science and plans to be a medical lab technician at a hospital in the area.
            Recipient Vanessa McClintic, of Portsmouth, Ohio, in Scioto County is a graduate of Wheelersburg High School. In high school she participated in the JOGS program and the Drama Club. She is pursuing a degree in the occupational therapy program.
            Recipient Alisha Hicks, daughter of Greg and Cheryl Hicks, of Portsmouth, Ohio, in Scioto County is a 2009 graduate of Valley High School. In high school she was a member of the yearbook staff, swim team, cross country team, marching band, and many other school activities. She is pursuing a degree in nursing and plans to specialize in surgery.
            Recipient Theresa Centers, daughter of Cindy and Frank Centers, of Williamsburg, Ohio, in Clermont County, is a 2008 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a returning SSU student. In high school she was a member of the softball, soccer, track and basketball teams. She was also a member of the Yearbook Club. She is pursuing a degree in nursing and plans to become a geriatric nurse at SOMC.
            Recipient Breana Basham, daughter of Danny and Lisa Basham, of Minford, Ohio, in Scioto County, is a 2006 graduate of Minford High School and a returning SSU student. In high school she was a member of the softball team and high school chorus. During high school she volunteered at SOMC at the welcome desk. Basham was also named on the Dean’s List for the Fall 2007 semester. She is pursuing a degree in dental hygiene and plans to work in a private dental office.
            Recipient Sabrina Bailon, daughter of Debbie West, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, in Scioto County, is a 2006 graduate of Piketon High School and returning SSU student. In high school she was a member of National Honor Society, Educational Talent Search and Prom Committee. She also graduated from high school with honors. She is pursuing a degree in nursing and hopes to eventually go into Midwifery..
            Recipient Allyson Applegate, daughter of Robin and Doug Applegate, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, in Scioto County, is a 2009 graduate of Green Jr.-Sr. High School. In high school she was a member of Spanish Club, concert band, color guard, 4-H and dance team. Applegate is pursuing a degree in nursing and plans to obtain her master’s degree,
            Recipient Larry Boldman Jr., of Portsmouth, Ohio, in Scioto County, came to SSU after obtaining is G.E.D and is a returning SSU student. He is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma and the SSU Pre-Med Club. Boldman also was named on the President’s List for Fall semester 2008. He is pursuing a degree in Pre-med and plans to become a family physician.
            Recipient Tasha Wilson, daughter of Larry and Beth Wilson of Otway, Ohio, in Scioto County, is a 2006 graduate of Northwest High School and a returning SSU student. In high school she was a member of the girls basketball team and Honors Club. Wilson is pursuing a degree in occupational therapy assistant.
            Recipient Jennifer Lore, daughter of Rita Wright, of Portsmouth, Ohio, in Scioto County, is a 2006 graduate of Valley High School and a returning SSU student. She attended Colorado Technical University before coming to SSU. Lore is pursuing a degree in medical laboratory.
            The funds of this scholarship are administered by the SSU Development Foundation. Individuals or organizations interested in establishing a scholarship can call the SSU Development Foundation at (740) 351-3284.
