New Gender Issues Class Offered at Shawnee State University

Sep. 30, 2011

A new course will be offered in the spring semester as part of the Women's Studies courses, "Gender Issues in Management." Sarah Smith Brown will be teaching the course.

The issues include Gender Discrimination, Women in Business, Leadership and Power, The Glass Ceiling, Pay Equity and Balancing Multiple Roles. This class satisfies the requirements of the Women's Studies Minor.

"The class is not just for women," Brown said. "It is relevant for both men and women."

Women's Studies is offered as a minor in the Department of Social Sciences at SSU. Minors offer students enrolled in any of SSU's baccalaureate programs an opportunity to broaden their course of study with an auxiliary focus.

Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on politics, culture, history and society from a women's perspective.

This may be a particularly attractive program for those majoring in English/humanities, social sciences or business, and for those planning to attend law school.
