Shawnee State University student Justin Osborn, is the
recipient of the Dr. Frank Byrne and Julia Coll scholarship
to help him in his studies as an exchange student with the
Universitat Juame I in Castello de la Plana, Spain. Osborn
is an International Relations major at SSU.
Byrne, linguistics professor, started the exchange program
at SSU with the first students participating in 1998.
He and his wife, Coll, started the scholarship fund for one
exchange student in the spring semester and one student in
the fall semester.
As an exchange student, Osborn does not receive any funds to
help him on his trip.
“This scholarship will really help me,” Osborn said. “I’ve
never experienced any other cultures and I’ve always wanted
to experience more, travel and see new places.”
This is the first time Osborn has been out of the United
States. Universitat Juame I is a public higher education and
research university, created in 1991 offering 31 degree
programs.
“I hope to travel throughout Europe while I am there,” he
said.
Osborn’s plans include travel to France, Belgium and Italy
as places he would like to visit. His plane will land in
Madrid where he will then take a train into Castello to
begin his studies in Spain.
