‘Women in Politics’ meet to discuss issues at Shawnee
State University
Shawnee State University Women’s Center will be meeting to
discuss issues in politics throughout fall and spring
semesters on the last Tuesday of every month. During fall
semester, the group will meet at 12:15 p.m. in the
University Center, Room 215.
The
discussion group idea came from Advisory Committee member
Connie Stoner who has been interested in civic engagement
for years. Stoner has worked for several campaigns
throughout the years and has been an activist in the
political arena.
“I would like
to see more people become politically active so that we can
sustain our democracy,” Stoner said.
Stoner has
been planning this group for several years and is hoping
that people will come to join in the discussion.
“Starting up
this group has been on my agenda for several years,” Stoner
said. “I presented the idea a couple of years ago, but
didn’t get it going until now.”
During the
2008 Presidential election Stoner and the SSU Women’s Center
did set up a table about how candidates were promoting
women’s issues.
“I won’t be a
lecturer at these meetings,” Stoner said. “I’m hoping that
participants will drive the conversation and discuss
issues.”
