The VanHoose Stewart Foundation has awarded more than $8,000 to the Big Sandy Scholarship Fund at Shawnee State University to help students pay for tuition and fees. In the photo, John C.             Shawnee State University students are the recipients of more than $8,000 from the VanHoose Stewart Foundation through the Big Sandy Scholarship Fund.
            The Big Sandy Scholarship was established in 2005 and directly benefits Shawnee State students through payments for tuition and fees.
            “We are so happy to partner with Shawnee State to provide an opportunity for a formal education, which otherwise may be impossible,” said Mary M. West, director of Learning and Development for Big Sandy Superstore.
            Award recipients for the upcoming academic year at SSU include Abbey Barrett, Colton Carter, Courtney Jordan, Heidi Morgan, Ryan Sias and Anna Stewart.
            “Mr. Stewart, the Foundation, and entire Big Sandy family are truly interested in building access to education and job opportunities for Southern Ohio so we can keep young families in the region and build for the future,” Eric Braun, executive director of SSU Development Foundation said.
            The VanHoose Stewart Foundation awarded scholarships for the 2010-11 school year to 30 students throughout the Big Sandy Superstore areas in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.
