Food and Games planned for Shawnee State University Alumni Weekend

An Alumni Weekend is planned for Shawnee State University Alumni and friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.

A tailgate party is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the southeast parking lot next to the soccer field where a large SSU sign on the roof of the smoke stack will be revealed for the first time. This sign will be seen from the Ohio River and from Kentucky.

A cookout is planned with hamburgers, hot dogs and a Kid's Zone featuring inflatables, face painting, popcorn, games, cotton candy, and henna tattoos from SSU's international students will also be available. A Beer Garden will be set up in the big tent.

An Alumni basketball game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9 at the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center in the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium.

The game schedule for Saturday, Sept. 10 includes:

  • 1 p.m. – Women's Soccer game;
  • 1:30 p.m. – Alumni Softball Game at Boone Coleman Park;
  • 3 p.m. – Men's Soccer game;
  • 5 p.m. – Alumni Soccer game.

All soccer games will be at the new Shawnee Turf Soccer Field by the southeast parking lot.

All former SSU students with 12 credit hours or more are automatically members of the Alumni Association and are entitled to a number of benefits including use of the Clark Memorial Library, membership fee discounts at the SSU Recreation Center, daily rate discounts at the Dr. Miller and Genevieve Toombs Children's Learning Center and special alumni ticket pricing for the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association events at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

Alumni are also offered discounts at King's Island, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Cincinnati Zoo. More than 13,000 alumni are eligible for the Alumni Association benefits.
