SSU’s library will be a noisy place on Sunday at
the student Welcome Party
Games, music, food and more will be on hand at the Welcome
to Shawnee State party at Clark Memorial Library on campus
from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22.
Wii and guitar hero are among several games offered at the
party. A fortune teller and two bands will be entertaining
the students. A photo booth will be set up for the students.
T-shirts, notebooks, flash drives and candy are a few of the
door prizes that will be given out during the evening.
“Students come to the library for many different reasons,
not necessarily to study,” said Ann Marie Short, associate
director. “They come to work on projects with other
students. They come to work on the computers, check out
Facebook and to study. Libraries are not the traditional
places that we had when we went to college.”
The library has eight group study rooms equipped with a
whiteboard that are available on a first come, first served
basis.
More than 40 computers are available – both PC and Mac,
along with scanners, colored printers and 15 laptops for use
in the library. The library has 150 databases and holds more
than 180,000 catalogued items to use.
The library contains catalog records of art books at the
Southern Ohio Museum, of juvenile literature at the
Children's Learning Center, and of books, e-books,
periodicals, e-journals, videos, including online videos,
CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, microforms, realia, etc., available
within or via the Clark Memorial Library.
The Clark Memorial Library Catalog is interactive with the
OhioLINK Library Catalog, containing catalog records
representing the holdings of 89 of Ohio's college and
university libraries.
Through OhioLINK, users may directly request virtually any
of the 50 million items owned by OhioLINK libraries, such as
research databases, online reference resources, e-journals,
e-books and online audio-visual resources off-campus.
A courier service assures delivery of OhioLINK materials to
Clark Memorial Library within 3 working days. There is no
charge for this service; however, users must have a current
SSU ID.
