Shawnee State University Assistant Professor Participates in E-Learning Modules

Over the course of eight months, Shawnee State University Assistant Professor Catherine Bailey participated in 11 online learning modules (Designing and Developing Simulations, Debriefing and Guided Reflection, Guidelines for Simulation Research, Reaching and Learning Strategies, Integrating Concepts into Simulations, Evaluating Simulations, Curriculum Integration, Programming and High-Fidelity Simulator, Designing a Simulation Center, Maximizing Realizing, and Developing Faculty) offered through the National League for Nursing’s Simulation Innovation Resource Center.
“It enhanced my knowledge of simulation scenario development and integration of simulation into Shawnee State University’s Associate Degree Nursing curriculum,” Bailey said. “The knowledge and skills required of nursing graduates have increased considerably due to the increased considerably due to the increasingly complex needs of today’s patients.”
Bailey believes that exposing students to simulated patient care situations in a safe environment for both students and patients can help prepare future nurses to meet these challenges.
“Though I’ve had some experience with simulation as a teaching strategy, the online modules really challenged me to take things to the next level,” Bailey said. “I am in the process of developing new scenarios that will be used in the in the Fall 2010 nursing courses and I will certainly incorporate information from the modules in the new scenarios.
Faculty Enrichment Funds made it possible for Bailey to participate in the continuing education offered by the National League for Nursing's Simulation Innovation Resource Center.
