Shawnee State University Student to Attend Purdue in the
Fall
Shawnee State University student Jiaxi “David” Wang
graduated this spring with double bachelor’s degrees in both
psychology and sociology and he plans to continue going to
school for up to six more years.
He also received Certificates of Achievement and named
Outstanding Psychology Major and Outstanding Sociology Major
at the Evening of Honors at SSU in April.
Wang has been accepted at Purdue University to work on his
Ph.D. in mathematical psychology through a five- to six-year
program that Purdue offers graduate psychology students.
“I feel anxious about going to Purdue,” Wang said. “I’m very
excited because it is a huge change and something I’m
looking forward to.”
Purdue University has offered Wang an assistantship.
Assistantships are usually only offered to graduate students
for financial assistance through part-time academic
employment.
“Purdue University is one of the top schools in psychology,”
Wang said. “I feel like it is someplace that I can spend
five years and study.”
Wang is originally from China and he has been in the U.S.
for 10 years. He would like to stay in the U.S. and find a
good job.
“I couldn’t have done this without the help of the faculty
and staff at SSU,” Wang said. “I am going to miss it here.”
