Shawnee State University's Dr. Jeff Bauer, professor, Department of Natural Sciences and interim dean of Research and Community Development, and Dr. Kurt Shoemaker, associate professor of Natural Sciences, attended The Geological Society of America- joint Northeastern/North-Central section conference from March 20 through the 22 in Pittsburgh, Penn. along with eight geology students.
The conference was the 46th annual conference for the Northeastern and the 45th annual conference for the North Central area.
The SSU students who attended the conference had the opportunity to research presentations and interact with professionals in geology. The conference also offered mentoring and career events that were specifically directed towards undergraduate students.
"The conference was a great opportunity for our undergraduate geology students to get their first taste of a professional conference and to interact with specialists in the field," Bauer said.
Students who attended the conference with Bauer and Shoemaker were Brandon Blakeman, Kate Sowards, Zackary Bishop, Kevin Engle, Franklin Wallbrown, Blake Wysocki, Samantha Roberts and Audrey Hogge.
Student travel was made possible through the Department of Natural Sciences, Dean of Arts and Sciences office and the Geology Club.
