Ed Hughes, executive director of The Counseling Center in Portsmouth, speaks at the first Pain Management, Prescription Medication and Drug Addiction Workshop for professionals at Shawnee State University in March. Maggie Selby, senior instructor in SSU's Nursing program, also taught at the workshop. The objectives were for participants to be able to understand and discuss the basic concepts of addiction, drug abuse, effective pain management, barriers to pain management and treatment options for people who are addicted to prescription medications.
