SSU students raise funds for Steven's Power Pack Club

April. 13, 2012

Kara Radatz, an M3C Midwest Campus Compact Citizen-Scholar Fellow at Shawnee State University, organized a fundraiser, "ShamROCK the Night Away," for Steven's Power Pack Club, a local food assistance program for children in the Portsmouth City School District and New Boston Elementary schools.

AmeriCorps/VISTA and the IMPACT team helped with the event. The event was held a few days before St. Patrick's Day in the Sodexo Ballroom at the University Center on campus. Four bands, singers and dancers entertained.

The cost was $3 for students and $5 for the community or three canned food items.

Through the sales of admissions, T-shirts and St. Patrick's Day items both at SSU's University Center at the event and at the St. Patty's Day Parade, students were able to raise $460 and collected nearly 100 canned food items for the Steven's Power Pack Club program.

"It was a fun and successful night," Radatz said. "I will not be here next year because I am graduating, but hopefully someone else will try to do it again next year and maybe it could be like a tradition every year around St. Patrick's Day."
