Winners Announced

Neil Carpathios, assistant professor in English at Shawnee State University, has announced the winners of the SSU Student Writing Awards for 2011 in a special ceremony on Thursday, March 31.

The winner of the Poetry competition is Brew Wilson-Battles with her poem, "Lost Tackle." The honorable mentions in Poetry are Amy Clark-Barnhart with "Mercury" and Christina Jones with "Advice from a Lightning Bug."

The winner of the Fiction competition is Pike Holt with his story, "Daphne." The honorable mentions for the Fiction competition are Lori McNelly with "The Cloud Factory" and Christina Jones with "The Last Shot."

The winner of Creative Nonfiction is Kelly Grooms with "Ballad for Beaumont" and the honorable mentions of Creative Nonfiction are Christina Jones with "Miracle Day" and Lori McNelly with "Our Nightmare."

Each winner received $75 and will be published in the spring edition of the Silhouette. Honorable mentions received $25 and will possibly be published in the spring edition of the Silhouette. Both winners and honorable mentions received a certificate.
