Celebrate National Poetry Month at a benefit poetry reading and open mic night, "Poems for Bread," that will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 16 at Clark Memorial Library's Flohr Lecture Hall on the SSU Campus.
The benefit will help support the Sojourner House of Portsmouth, a halfway facility that feeds, houses, and aids individuals to get back on track in a positive way in society.
Participants are asked to donate a minimum of one dollar for every poem they read and any donations are welcome, even from those who do not want to read, turning poems into bread.
Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public. "Poems for Bread" is sponsored by Shawnee State University's Scribes of the Round Table and the Creative Writing Club.
