SSU's Scribes of the Round Table to Sponsor Benefit Poetry Reading

Mar. 29, 2011

Shawnee State University's Scribes of the Round Table will be sponsoring a benefit poetry reading called "Poems for Bread" from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 in the Flohr Lecture Hall in the SSU's Clark Memorial Library.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Haley House in Portsmouth. The Haley House is a halfway facility that feeds, houses, and assists individuals to get back on track in a positive way in society.

SSU Professor Neil Carpathios and Ohio University-Lancaster's Dr. Scott Minar will be featured readers during this event followed by an open mic format where anyone can read. Participants are asked to donate at least $1 for each poem that they read. Anyone who would like to donate but does not want to read is welcome also.

"Poems for Bread" is an event to celebrate National Poetry Month and to help our neighbors by turning poems into bread.

Poetry books of both Carpathios and Minar will be on sale and all proceeds will go to the Haley House.

Refreshments will be available at the event. For more information contact Professor Neil Carpathios at ncarpathios@shawnee.edu or at (740) 351-3478.
