Shawnee State Students Volunteer at 14th Street Community Center

Shawnee State University students participated in the 14th Street Community Center’s MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 18. The day began at 9 a.m. with student volunteers setting up for the program, food preparation and spending time with the youth who attended.
Maureen Cadogan, director of Operation Safety Net (Scioto County Homeless Shelter) gave a presentation on the history and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Students then paired with children to work on crafts and other educational activities that demonstrated the significance of King and how his perseverance has impacted their lives.
The theme of the day was “Footsteps” and how it takes a single footstep to begin a journey and how the youth need to take steps now that will take them where they want to go in life with a strong emphasis on education.
