Shawn E. Bear made a surprise visit to the Jan. 15 Shawnee
State University Board of Trustees Meeting, held in the
Homer Selby Board Room in the Clark Memorial Library. During
the meeting, the Board of Trustees recognized athletes and
coaches of the fall athletic teams.
Shawnee State Board of Trustees Endorses Strategic Plan and
Recognizes Student Athletes
The Shawnee State University Board of Trustees reviewed and
endorsed the results of the Shawnee 20/20 strategic planning
process during its January meeting, directing SSU President
Rita Rice Morris to address elements of the plan in future
budget and program planning.
“It is evident the level of thought and campus-wide
involvement that went into this strategic plan,” Jack McCoy,
SSU Board of Trustees Chairperson, said. “It provides a
comprehensive framework for future growth. I would like to
thank the university community for their hard work and
dedication to this process.”
During its meeting, the Board of Trustees also honored the
students and coaches of the fall athletic teams, including
the women’s volleyball team which won the American Mideast
Conference Championship with a perfect record of 12-0 and
advanced to the NAIA National Meet; the women’s soccer team
which earned post season play and advanced to the American
Mideast Conference tournament; the women’s cross country
team which finished third in the AMC/NAIA Region IX meet and
advanced three players to the NAIA National Meet; and the
men’s cross country team which finished second in the AMC/NAIA
regional meet and fourth in the NAIA National Championship
Meet.
Individual athletes honored by the Board of Trustees include
women’s volleyball players Tiffany Dailey, NAIA All-Scholar
Athlete and 2nd Team All-American Mideast Conference; Haley
Halcomb, All-American Mideast Setter of the Year, 1st Team
All-American Mideast Conference, and AMC Honorable Mention;
Kim Rosen, All-American Mideast Conference Freshman Team and
3rd Team All-American Mideast Conference; Heather Koehler,
1st Team All-American Mideast Conference and 3rd Team
All-American Mideast Conference; Jami Turrill, 2nd Team
All-American Mideast Conference; and Megan Wills, 3rd Team
All-American Mideast Conference.
Women’s soccer players honored include Staci White, NAIA
All-Scholar Athlete; Sam Rolsen, 1st Team All-American
Mideast Conference; Kelley Bowles, 1st Team All-American
Mideast Conference; Brittany Brooks, 2nd Team All-American
Mideast Conference; Liz Scudder, 3rd Team All-American
Mideast Conference; and Danielle Morgan and Sovoeung Len,
both AMC Honorable Mention.
Men’s soccer players recognized include Chris George, Bryan
Barker, and Matt Lonsinger, NAIA All-Scholar Athletes; and
Steven Cox, Luke Purpero, Drew Sampson and Ryan Beatty, AMC
Honorable Mention.
Women’s cross-country athletes recognized by the Board
include Ann Marie Allen and Andrea Jackson, NAIA All-Scholar
Athletes; Brittney LiPira, 2nd Team All-American Mideast
Conference; and Kasey Hosier and Tisha Grove, AMC Honorable
Mention.
Men’s cross-country players recognized include Corey
Culbertson, NAIA All-American and NAIA All-Scholar Athlete;
Tyler Hickey, NAIA All-Scholar Athlete and AMC Honorable
Mention; Warren Hinkle and Michael Owen, NAIA All-Scholar
Athletes; Galen Dills, Josh Linkous, Michael Owen and Shane
Meyer, 2nd Team All-American Mideast Conference; and Chuck
Wentz, AMC Honorable Mention.
In other business, the Board of Trustees approved the
academic calendar for 2010-11 and approved personnel
policies developed for the university’s security operations.
