January 24, 2013

Shawnee State University art faculty and students have donated artwork – paintings, drawings, ceramics, digital art and more – for a silent auction to help raise funds for students to travel to Spain and France on an art history tour during spring break.

Faculty and students will be traveling for 10 days visiting museums and historical sites in Madrid, Toledo, a medieval city, and museums and historical sites in Paris.

SSU's faculty has won numerous awards for their work and many have donated their art for the auction, including Lane Raiser, Allyson Klutenkamper, Bastien Lecouffe, Todd Reynolds, Philip Gearheart, Kate Kerr and Mike Bowman.

The art can be seen and bids may be placed after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, and from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25.

Beginning Thursday, Jan. 24 and Friday, Jan. 25, caricature artists will be raising money for the trip at the University Center. They will be drawing every Thursday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. until Friday, Feb. 15.

Students will be having a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday, Feb. 4 through Friday, Feb. 8 in the University Center also to raise funds for the trip.

The public is invited to participate in the fundraising activities. For more information, e-mail Janine Grey at greyj@mymail.shawnee.edu.
