news directors, editors, producers, and reporters: U.S.
Senator George Voinovich (R-Ohio) will be visiting the Shawnee State
University campus on Saturday, May 4 from 11:15 a.m. to
approximately 12:15 p.m. The focus of his visit is to meet with SSU
officials; tour the Ohio Appalachian Center for Higher Education
(OACHE), the organization that promotes higher education
opportunities for high school students in the Appalachian section of
Ohio; and visit a Shawnee State University computer lab where
displaced workers, business owners, and area residents can improve
their technology skills with courses in information technology,
professional development, education enrichment, and industrial
safety. This is the
kind of program Voinovich sought to expand with his new Appalachian
Regional Commission (ARC) technology initiative.
Additional information accompanies this fax. Highlights
of the visit will include a meeting with SSU Interim President
Michael Field; a meeting with Wayne White, executive director of
OACHE; and the Senator’s observation of a Shawnee State University
Office of University Outreach Services Microsoft IT Academy MCSE
program class. A press
conference will be held at the conclusion of his visit at
approximately noon, in SSU’s Administration Building, Room 032 (in
the basement). I have
included a campus map to help you find the building. The
entire tour is open to members of the media.
If you need additional information, please let me know. #
