The
Shawnee State University Children’s Learning Center, in
conjunction with the Ohio Bicentennial Celebration and the
National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Week
of the Young Child Celebration, is sponsoring a children’s fair
from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 10.
“Celebrate
Ohio…Celebrate Ohio’s Young Children,” will feature 350
children from the SSU Children’s Learning Center, Scioto County
Cooperative Pre-schools, Scioto County Head Starts, Scioto County
Even Starts, and The Carousel Center participating in various
events on the SSU alumni green. The event will be moved inside to
the Rhodes Athletic Center in the event of rain. In addition to
help received from participating programs, students and staff from
the SSU Departments of Teacher Education, Nursing, and
Occupational Therapy will assist.
The
following interactive stations will be set up for the children:
storytelling, chalk walk, parachute, silly songs with Tigger,
Pooh, and Mother Goose, tumbling with Studio 104, an obstacle
course, and tattoos. The following characters will be at the event
for the children to meet: SOMC Scrubs, Poison Smart, SSU Bear
Mascot, Smokey the Bear, Tigger, Pooh, and Mother Goose. An
information booth will be set up for parents and other family
members with the following organizations represented: WIC, Ohio
KIDS Cards, OSU Extension, Community Action Organization, Even
Start, and Healthy Start.
The
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
is the nation's largest and most influential organization of early
childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality
of programs for children from birth through third grade.
The
SSU Children’s Learning Center has celebrated NAEYC’s Week of
the Young Child for three years. The Week of the Young Child
focuses on recognizing that children's opportunities are everyone’s
responsibility. The national celebration is designed to promote
the opportunity of ensuring that every child experiences the type
of early environment--at home, at child care, at school, and in
the community--that will promote their early learning.
