The month of March is National Athletic Training month and Shawnee State University's Office of Athletics will celebrate this special month on Monday, March 4 at noon in the University Center (UC) on the SSU campus in Portsmouth. The purpose of the celebration is to promote athletic training and increase awareness of athletic training in the community.

Portsmouth Mayor Greg Bauer will read a proclamation at noon in the UC, and cake will be served. SSU's certified athletic trainer, Shane Wells, ATC; Tony Ward, MS, ATC, senior instructor, sports studies at SSU; and studentathletic trainers will be available to discuss SSU's bachelor of science degree in sports studies with a concentration in athletic training, what they do as athletic trainers, and how athletic training can affect the community. Parents, coaches, students, teachers, and others affiliated with athletics or recreational activity will be in attendance.
