MEDIA ADVISORY Contact: E-mail: thapney@shawnee.edu Who: Shawnee State University (SSU) President Rita Rice Morris What: The president will jump from an airplane. When: Wednesday, Nov. 10 at noon (during the University’s annual Veterans Recognition Day (which runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) Where: SSU campus between the University Center and the Clark Memorial Library Why: The goal of President Morris is to illustrate to the entire region that anyone who overcomes his/her fears can do anything he/she sets his/her mind to do. Enrolling in and attending college is intimidating and scary for many people in our region—the Appalachian region of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Many of SSU’s students are first-generation college students who had to overcome adversity and discouragement (from family members and friends), in addition to other fears, in order to attend college. Thousands of individuals have graduated and improved their lives and the region overall thanks to a college education from Shawnee State University. How do you get more information for a story? Contact the SSU Office of Communications at (740) 351-3810, (740) 351-3112, or via e-mail at thapney@shawnee.edu. # # # |
