WHO: First Books of Scioto County is a national nonprofit organization that provides children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books.

WHAT: First Books of Scioto County will hold a press event to award grants to five area organizations, including the Children’s Learning Center.

WHEN; Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Children’s Learning Center at Shawnee State University.

HOW: Reporters will get the opportunity to talk to grant recipients and First Book committee members about the organization and how the grant recipients will be able to use the grants they will receive.

WHY: The press event is being held to award grants to: Bloom Vernon Even Start, CAO Head Start, The Children’s Learning Center, Portsmouth City Even Start and the Scioto County Early Intervention Program. Through the grant awards, 820 children in Scioto County will receive a total of 3,260 books.
