Contact: To news directors, editors, producers, and reporters: WHO: Children of the Shawnee State University (SSU) Dr. Miller and Genevieve Toombs Children Learning Center (CLC) WHAT: The annual track and field day WHEN: Tuesday, May 17, from 9:30 a.m. -11 a.m. WHERE: Held at SSU’s practice soccer field HOW: The 3 to 5-year-old students at the CLC will participate in an obstacle course and various field events that family members can watch, followed by a medaling ceremony (at 11 a.m.). Cindy Ferguson, director of the CLC, said that the center does not have first, second, or third place awards, but every student receives a medal for participation. Events also include potato sack races, long jump, football throw, and soccer kicks. WHY: “Everybody deserves to be honored for their best effort. The competitive world comes soon enough,” Ferguson said. She also said that the track and field events are a great way for family and staff members to view the children’s gross motor skills and see how the students interact in a group. # # # |
