To news directors, editors, producers, and reporters:

Shawnee State University’s (SSU) Department of Nursing, the SSU Office of University Outreach Services, and SOMC are offering a Nursing Professional Development opportunity entitled, “Would You Recommend Your Lifestyle to Your Patients?”.

The session will take place at the SOMC Friends Community Center on Monday, May 9, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This information-packed presentation focuses on the trends in lifestyles today that compromise good health.  Valuable information is given on lifestyle changes and activities that nurses should follow and recommend to patients to achieve balance and good health.

The presenter of the session is Kay Ball, RN, MSA, CNOR, FAAN.  Ball is a perioperative nurse consultant and educator who works with nurses, professional organizations, health care facilities, industry, and legislative groups.  She served as president of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and received the 2003 AORN Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing, and has been very active with the Ohio Nurses Association.  She received the 2004 ANA Barbara Thoman Curtis Award for Political Excellence.  She has many years of experience as a surgical nurse and has written books on laser technology and endoscopy.  She continues to lecture throughout the world on surgical and health care topics.  Ball is very involved with the legislative arena and serves on the state legislator’s campaign team.

This would be a great opportunity for your media outlet to interview an international nursing expert.

For more information on the presentation call the SSU Office of Communications at (740) 351-3810.
