FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: SSU Astronomy to hold “Star Party” Tonight Anyone interested in viewing the sky through a telescope is cordially invited by the Shawnee State University (SSU) astronomy club to its “Star Party” tonight at 10 p.m. on the Portsmouth Floodwall, just upstream from the Offnere Street crossing. A “star party” is an open telescope night where the astronomy club will offer the public the opportunity to star gaze through several four-inch telescopes and one 12-inch telescope. Telescope views of the stars, nebulae, planets, and possibly a comet will be shown, according to Timothy Hamilton, Ph.D., director of the SSU Clark Planetarium and assistant professor of physics, department of natural sciences. Hamilton is the club’s adviser. In case of inclement weather, the party will be rescheduled to Monday, June 14. Attendees are welcome to bring their own telescopes or binoculars.
