In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Shawnee State University (SSU) is hosting the 2004 Volunteer Expo: “Connecting People with Organizations” in an effort to encourage volunteerism among SSU students and the community.

            More than 25 local organizations and agencies such as Hospice of Southern Ohio, Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, Girl Scouts-Seal of Ohio Council, American Red Cross, and Scioto County Children’s Services, are scheduled to attend the event to showcase their organizations and make the public aware of their volunteer needs.

            The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, in the gymnasium of the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center at SSU. Door prizes will also be given away.

            Sponsors of the event include the SSU Office of Communications, SSU Office of Volunteer Services, WNXT-AM/FM, WZZZ-FM, the Portsmouth Daily Times, and the Community Common.
