Off Campus Access to Research Databases

To use Clark Memorial Library's research databases from home select the "Off Campus? Click Here!" links located on the library's research databases pages:

• Academic Search Complete
• Lexis Nexis
• The Short List of Selected Databases
• Databases by Subject
• All Research Databases A-Z
• E-Journal Finder

At the prompt enter:

Username:  First Name Last Name (jane smith)
Password: University ID

• The proxy server will not work with the browser that is provided by AOL.  If AOL is your internet service provider you will need to use another browser, such as Internet Explorer.
• The proxy server will not work if you have Internet Explorer version 5.5 (unless it has Service Pack 2).  This browser is commonly found on computers that are running Windows 98.
• Your browser must have cookies and java enabled.
• Patrons who had previously configured their web browser for use with library's proxy server do not need to remove the settings.

Users have other options for accessing research databases from home or work. If you are not able to use Clark Memorial Library's proxy server, please consider one of the following options for access from home or work:

Many, but not all, OhioLINK research databases are available for remote login using OhioLINK's remote authentication.  (NOTE: Clark Memorial Library provides several research databases that are NOT available via OhioLINK.)  

You must have a current Clark Memorial Library account to authenticate via OhioLINK.  

For OhioLINK research databases, select the institution and SUBMIT:

Then enter name and university ID and SUBMIT:

NOTE:  If you are accessing the OhioLINK site from a commercial ISP, use the "authenticate now" option at the top of the Research Database menu to get all the active links for SSU students, faculty, and staff.  

A user with a current Clark Memorial Library account who has entered all information exactly as requested but is not accessing an OhioLINK resource should review OhioLINK's Help and Hints: Access and  Remote Authentication: Frequently Asked Questions pages.  Questions about the information on the OhioLINK webpages can be directed to the Clark Memorial Library Reference Counter (740.351.3321.)

Off-campus all research databases are available to SSU students, faculty, and staff connecting to <library.shawnee.edu> via a university Web server account.   This dial-up service to a Portsmouth telephone number can be obtained at no cost from University Information Services.  You do not have to have a current Clark Memorial Library account to access resources via the university Web server

The FirstSearch Authorization Number and Password are available to Shawnee State University students, faculty, and staff at the Clark Memorial Library Reference Counter.   Authorization numbers and Passwords can also be emailed to SSU email addresses.

OPLIN (Ohio Public Library and Information Network) offers remote access to research databases.   A current Ohio public library account is required for access to some resources.   Please contact your local Ohio public library for more information about OPLIN databases.  

The Kentucky Virtual Library offers remote access to research databases.  A current Kentucky public library account is required for access to some resources.  Please contact your local Kentucky public library for more information about KYVL databases.
