Bibliographic instruction is the process of instructing
users to access information independently and be
information
literate.
Reference librarians have a commitment to instructing
students, faculty, and staff in the effective identification and
use of information resources. All students
receive formal library instruction in
Senior
Seminar. Students who take English 1101 (the five-hour
introduction to Freshman Composition) typically receive a 50-minute
one-shot introduction to CML's most popular research databases,
Academic Search Complete and LexisNexis. The
English faculty anticipate that students who place in English 1102
will need no formal instruction from librarians. All students
are encouraged to review the Research Strategies webpages.
Reference librarians offer many
course-related library instruction sessions each semester, which
cover basic and advanced research sources and strategies. These sessions are planned in collaboration with
the faculty member, so that the instruction is directly relevant
to the particular course topics and assignments.

A one credit-hour class,
English 1100 "Information
Access for the Undergraduate," is taught by a librarian.
