Library Liaison Program

The Library Liaison Program provides Shawnee State University faculty with a personal contact in the library program. This contact, or liaison, can help answer questions about the library programs and provide information on new services and products. The primary objective is to work collaboratively with faculty to enhance the academic program.

Library Liaison assist faculty to:

  • build collections that better reflect curriculum and research priorities,
  • provide student-centered services,
  • integrate information literacy competencies into the curriculum.

The Library Liaison program provides a communication link between faculty and librarians, facilitating the sharing of information about faculty needs and library programming. Teaching faculty are encouraged to communicate concerns regarding collection development and the effective use of the collection and library services to their Library Liaison. In turn, Library Liaisons notify faculty about new resources, changing policies and procedures related to collection development and new public service programs.

Each academic department is assigned a liaison librarian to be both a contact person and an advocate for departmental and faculty concerns. In this way, library staff hope to be better informed about faculty and students' needs, faculty research interests, or problems with library policy and procedures.

In collaboration with faculty, librarians manage the selection, evaluation and deselection of  resources in the library collection.

Librarians are available to assist faculty with designing the research component of course assignments. Librarians also offer tours of the library for students and faculty, subject-specific instructional orientations, assistance in literature searching on electronic research databases and any other information-related request. The liaison also will keep departments aware of new features of the library website, library developments, important new resources, and the availability of new library technologies.

To learn more about the program, call Connie Salyers Stoner 351-3462 or your department's liaison.
