How do I place
print material on reserve
at the Shawnee State University Library?
Reserve request forms are available
at the Circulation counter. Material may also be placed on reserve
by using the electronic form found on the
Shawnee State University home
page under
Library Services – Library Services for Faculty.
A completed library course reserve form must accompany each request
to be placed on reserve.
What kind of materials can be put
on reserve?
You may place personal copies, Shawnee
State University
books, and journal articles on reserve. Examination copies of textbooks may not
be placed on reserve. The library does not have copies of all
textbooks on reserve. Faculty members may place a personal
copy of the current textbook on
reserve. OhioLINK and Interlibrary Loan items may not be placed
on reserve.
How long can students borrow reserve
materials?
Items may be placed on reserve for: 2
hour loan for use in the library, overnight, 3 day, 7day, or 21 day.
Faculty decide
how long students are able to check out material.
How long does it take to have
material put on reserve?
The library staff makes every effort
to put items on reserve as soon as they are received. Please allow
at least 24 hours. At the beginning of the semester, additional time
may be necessary. Items are processed on a first come, first served
basis.
What kind of copyright permission do
I need to put materials on reserve?
Individual chapters from a book or a
single article may be placed on reserve without copyright
permission. If you would like your students to have multiple copies
of the same book or article available, it will be necessary to
contact the publisher for copyright permission. Copyright law states
that the number of copies placed on reserve should be reasonable in
light of the number of students enrolled in the course. The general
rule has been one copy for every 10 students. The library will need a
copy of this copyright permission.
How long may items stay on reserve?
Items may stay on reserve for one
semester. At the end of each semester, library staff will contact
faculty to determine if the items should remain on reserve.
If no longer needed on reserve or if the staff is not notified,
personal items will be returned to the owner and library items will be
returned to the collection
