How do I place material on reserve
at the Shawnee State University Library?
Reserve request forms are available
at the Circulation counter. Material may also be placed on reserve
by using the electronic form found on the library home page
(library.shawnee.edu)
under Library Services – Library Services for Faculty.
What kind of materials can be put
on reserve?
You may place personal copies, SSU
books, and journal articles. Books borrowed from other institutions
may not be placed on reserve.
How long can students borrow reserve
materials?
Items may be placed on reserve for
use in the library, overnight, 3 days, 7 days or 21 days. You decide
how long you want your students to be able to check out material.
How long does it take to have
material put on reserve?
The library staff makes every effort
to put items on reserve as soon as they are received. Please allow
at least 24 hours. At the beginning of the semester, additional time
may be necessary. Items are processed on a first come, first served
basis.
What kind of copyright permission do
I need to put materials on reserve?
Individual chapters from a book or a
single article may be placed on reserve without copyright
permission. If you would like your students to have multiple copies
of the same book or article available, it will be necessary to
contact the publisher for copyright permission. Copyright law states
that the number of copies placed on reserve should be reasonable in
light of the number of students enrolled in the course. The general
rule has been one copy for every 5 students. The library will need a
copy of this copyright permission.
How long may items stay on reserve?
Items may stay on reserve for one
semester. At the end of each semester, library staff will return your
items. If items are to stay on reserve for continuous semesters, the
library will need a copy of this copyright permission.
