application as soon as we receive the $65
application fee. You must send to SSU
a personal check or a money order or cash (in US
dollars) in payment of this fee. Please make your
check or money order payable to Shawnee State
University.

applicable, postsecondary (college or university)

transcripts/diplomas must be copies of the original

for some reason these transcripts/diplomas cannot be

cost of the evaluation service.
- An official score of 500 (paper-based), 170
(computer-based), or 60 (internet-based), at a
minimum, on the
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or
5.5 on the
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
or 80 on the
Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)
is required for admission to a degree program for
students whose native language is not English. TOEFL can send your scores directly to SSU. For
TOEFL to do so it will need our code. Shawnee State
University’s code is 1790.
- Proof of financial resources which are adequate
to support the student for one year. If you intend
to finance your education yourself, you must supply
a statement from your bank showing funds equal to
those required for one year. If you are being
sponsored, an affidavit of support and a bank
statement showing adequate funds for one year must
be submitted. SSU requires, in either case, that the
bank statement must show a minimum of $20,076 in US dollars.
The bank statement must be a recent statement; we
can not accept a statement that is dated more than
six months prior to the start of your studies. This
amount covers tuition, fees, housing, meals,
books and other miscellaneous expenses. To access
the appropriate form to fill out and mail to SSU

questions and answers about student visas to the US
and other immigration issues pertaining to
international students in the US please follow this

International students are required to accept the cost
of university health insurance or produce proof of
adequate insurance while in the United States.
To be assured consideration for admission, all
required materials described above must be received
about six months prior to the beginning of classes for
the term you plan to begin your studies. Those international applicants
who are accepted for admission will receive an
acceptance letter and an I-20 form from SSU. Please
note: the acceptance letter and I-20 will not be
issued until the Office of Admission has received all
required materials. Once we issue both documents to you
they are to be used by you to secure a student visa to
the United States. Important note: It could take
a rather long time to process your student visa at your
local/regional U.S. Embassy/U.S. Consulate. We recommend
that you apply for a visa as soon as you receive a
notification of acceptance by SSU.
