On Campus Volunteer Opportunities


Key Club

  • Were you in Key Club in high school? Do you love service and wish SSU had a Key Club? Become a part of SSU's NEW Circle K club!

Golden Bears (Monday–Friday)

  • Do you like working with the elderly and have good computer skills? The Golden Bears need you! Help is needed with record keeping and mingling with the members. Looking for a volunteer who can work 2 to 3 hours a week.

SSU Recycling Initiative
(All Year, once a week)

  • This is a campus wide door to door recycling program. Student volunteers typically pick up anywhere from 900 – 1200 gallons if recyclables a week. In the past this has taken 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on how many volunteers we have. While this program was meant to serve SSU, Portsmouth and our earth and help keep recyclables out of the landfills, the program was also meant to serve our students. In a survey given during fall 2010, the majority of students who took the survey indicated that recycling is important to them and that they would recycle more often if it was easier to do so. We hope that this program makes recycling easier for SSU residents so that more residents will recycle and decrease the percentage of items that are thrown away per week in each student's residence.
