SIX BEARS EARN ALL-AMERICAN MIDEAST CONFERENCE
RECOGNITION

Six members of the Shawnee State University Women's
Soccer Team earned All-American Mideast Conference recognition for
the 2007 season.
Sarah Koehler,
Sam Rolsen,
and
Kelly Bowles
earned 2nd Team honors. Koehler, a senior from Sardinia, OH
led the Bears with 10 goals on the season. She also had 5
assists and 3 game winning goals. Rolsen, a sophomore keeper
from Cincinnati, OH recorded 141 saves and tied a school record with
8 wins on the season. Kelly Bowles, a freshman from
Cincinnati, OH scored 8 goals and tallied a team-leading 7 assists.
Savoeung Ien,
Amanda Jay,
and
Kat Westendorf
were honorable mention All-AMC. Ien, a sophomore defender from
Columbus scored 1 goal and had 2 assists from her defensive
position. Amanda Jay, a senior from Dayton had 2 goals and 1
assist. Westendorf, a freshman from Amelia, OH had 6 goals and
4 assists.
Shawnee State posted a record of 9-7-1 for its second
straight winning season. |

WESTENDORF SIGNS WITH SSU

| Amelia High School's Kat Westendorf has signed a
letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Shawnee State
University. She is the seventh member of the Bears' 2007
recruiting class. Westendorf is a four-year
varsity starter. She earned All-FAV honors three times and
Honorable Mention All-Ohio honors once. During her career at
Amelia High School, she tallied 17 goals and 7 assists.
"Kat is a talented soccer player who knows the
game extremely well," said Coach Appell. "She has great field
awareness from the midfield position. I look for Kat to
contribute to the success of our team this fall. She has the
ability to make great things happen on the attack."

NEW RICHMOND'S LAVELY SIGNS WITH SSU
MARCH 23, 2007 |
New Richmond High School's Kayla Lavely has
signed a letter of intent to continue her
soccer career at Shawnee
State University. She is the sixth member to sign with the
Bears for the 2007 season.Lavely helped
lead her team to league championships in her sophomore and junior
seasons, and runner-up her senior season. Her senior season,
she compiled six goals and five assists.
"Kayla is a natural athlete who could play any
where I put her," said Coach Appell. "Right now I fell Kayla
will benefit us the most from the defensive end of the field.
She is a strong and aggressive player who will not back down.
I feel Kayla will fill some vacancy left by graduating seniors."
Lavely plans to major in Athletic Training while
at Shawnee State University.

LITTLE MIAMI'S
SHACKELFORD SIGNS WITH SSU

Little Miami High School's Courtney Shackelford
has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Shawnee State
University. She is the fifth member of the 2007 recruiting
class. Shackelford is a four-year starter.
She earned 1st team FAVC honors as well as Defense Player of the
Year while attending Little Miami. She has tallied 12 assists
in her career as a defender.
"Courtney is a solid defender who will bring great
passion as well as aggression to the game," said Coach Appell.
"I feel that Courtney can help us from the defensive perspective of
the game. I look for Courtney to compete at a high level and
make a difference all season."
Shackelford plans to major in Early Childhood
Education while at Shawnee State.

SSU SOCCER SIGNS FOURTH RECRUIT

Cindi Hay, a forward, from Minford high School
has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Shawnee State
University. She is the fourth member of the 2007 recruiting
class.

Hay, is a four-year letter winner in soccer.
She earned All-District honors four times and earned All-State
honors her senior year. Hay leave Minford as the school'
all-time leading sorer with 93 goals and 22 assists. "I am
looking forward to playing soccer at this level," said Hay. "I
am fortunate to have the opportunity to stay close to home and play
collegiate soccer."
"Any time you can pickup a player who has found
the back of the net as many times as Cindi has you are excited,"
said Head Coach Rob Appell. "I am glad that we were able to
keep Cindi at home, it is always good when you keep the local talent
close to home."
Hay becomes the first four-year soccer player
from Minford to play collegiate soccer. While at Shawnee State
University Cindi plans to major in Fitness Development.

SSU SIGNS ANDERSON'S BOWLES

Anderson High School's Kelly Bowles has signed
a letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Shawnee State
University. She is the third player to sign with the Bears
for the 2007 season.
Bowles joins the Bears after lettering four
years at Anderson High School (Cincinnati) where she was captain and
earned first team all-conference honors her senior year.
"Kelley is a great student athlete who will help control our center
midfield in 2007. I am looking forward to have Kelley in our
lineup this season," said Head Coach Rob Appell.
Bowles plans to major in Dental Hygiene while
at Shawnee State. "I am excited about coming to a smaller
school that is close to home where I can focus on school as well as
have the opportunity to play collegiate soccer," said Bowles.

TIPPECANOE'S HARTKE SIGNS WITH SSU
DECEMBER 2, 2006 |
Tippecanoe High School's Maria Hartke has signed
a letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Shawnee State
University. She is the second member of the 2007 recruiting
class. Hartke was a 1st team all-conference
honoree. She helped lead her team to three league
championships and one district championship during her career at
Tippecanoe. During her career she tallied 16 goals, 15
assists, and 1 non-goalie save.
"Marie is a great athlete that will help our
midfield in 2007," said Coach Appell. "I feel that Maria can
add some much needed depth to a young midfield. She has a
great sense of the game, and should fit into our program nicely."
Hartke plans to major in Occupational Therapy
while at Shawnee State University.

BEARS SIGN FIRST 2007 RECRUIT

Chillicothe High School's Jessica Campbell is the first member
of the 2007 recruiting class
to sign a letter of intent to play
soccer at Shawnee State University.
Campbell was a three-year starter for the Cavaliers. "Jessi
has he skills and knowledge to step in and help make a difference on
the 2007 squad," said Head Coach Rob Appell. "I look for Jessi
to make an impact right away."
Campbell plans on majoring in Nursing while attending Shawnee
State.

| KOEHLER NAMED NAIA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK |

Sarah Koehler was
named NAIA Women's Soccer Player of Week. Koehler, recorded
seven goals and four assists in two victories for Shawnee State.
She scored twice in a 4-2 decision versus Brescia. She then
erupted for five goals and four assists in a 17-0 win over
Pikeville. She set new school records for the most assists and
points in a single game and tied the record for most goals scored. |
