The Shawnee State women's soccer team's
season came to an end on Saturday, as the Bears fell
in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Campbellsville in the
Mid-South Tournament. Shawnee State closes the
season with an 9-7 overall record.
Shawnee State managed five shots on
goal, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Campbellsville's Ashley Corum scored the games only
goal in the 44th minute of play.
SSU's junior Brooke Warner tallied
six saves in just her second start in goal. [Box

October 30 vs. Cumberlands |
|
The Shawnee State Women's Soccer Team
broke a three-game losing streak by defeating The
University of Cumberlands Saturday 1-0. The Bears
improved their record to 9-6 overall and an even 4-4
in the Mid-South Conference, while Cumberlands drops
to 7-7-2 for the season and 5-3 in the Mid-South
Conference. The Bears
combined an impressive mixture of solid defense and
well executed offense in order to secure the victory
against the Cumberlands. Sophomore Stephanie Rhoads
had Shawnee's only goal and was assisted by freshman
Theresa Welsch. The goal is Rhoads sixth of the
season and Welsch's third assist. Cumberlands
outnumbered Shawnee in total shots with 21-11 and in
the number of shots on goal with 13-5.
Junior Brooke Warner had a
career-high of 13 saves in goal. [Box

October 23 vs. Campbellsville |
|
The Shawnee State women’s soccer team lost to
Mid-South Conference foe Campbellsville
7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Shawnee Turf. The
loss drops the Bears to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the MSC.
With the win, Campbellsville improves to 10-6 and 5-3 in MSC
play.
The match was a defensive struggle early as
each team was trying to find their way to the net. The
Tigers opened up the scoring on a penalty kick by Megan
Campbell in the eighth minute of play. The Bears tried
to answer right back in the 15th minute, but a shot by Kat
Westendorff sailed just of the goal . The score remained 1-0
until late in the second half when Campbellsville took
advantage of a few Shawnee State defensive lapses and scored
two goals in the final 2:30 for the half to make it 3-0.
The second half saw Shawnee State have three
great scoring chances in which they were unable to finish
while Campbellsville continued to stay on the attack.
They tallied three more goals before the Bears got on the
scoreboard on a goal by Brittany Brooks that was assisted by
Theresa Welsch. The goal was Brooks' team leading 12th
of the season while Welsch tallied her third assist.
Campbellsville went on to add one more goal late in the
second half. On the game, The Bears were out shot
27-12.

October 19 vs. Walsh |
|
The Shawnee State women’s soccer team fell
1-0 to Walsh University in a non-conference match as Shawnee
State hosted the Robert N. Appell II Kick for Crohn's game.
The two teams teamed up for the cause in memory of Head
Coach Rob Appell and brother Assistant Coach Ryan's father.
Walsh's Molly Martin scored the games only
goal in the 69th minute of play on an assist by Carley
Adams.
Freshman Sara Cashdollar recorded a
career-high 14 saves in the loss, playing the entire game in
goal. WU's Jill Zanney tallied three saves.
"It is tough to lose a close game when you
see opportunities pass and you know you had a chance to
capitalize," Head Coach Appell stated about the Bears tough
loss. "With that said I am proud of the effort the
girls gave today, it was a completely different team than we
have seen in the past couple weeks. Hopefully we can
build on that going into a big conference game this
weekend."
"We would like to thank everyone who took
part in today's Kick for Crohn's game. It was great to
see all the support and hear all the encouraging comments
from our friends, family and fans." said Appell.
Shawnee State falls to 8-5 on the season and

The Shawnee State women’s soccer team fell
5-0 to Indiana Tech on Saturday. The Bears fall to 7-5
on the season.
The Bears couldn't generate their offense as
they only tallied four shots on goal in the game compared to
Indiana Tech's 15 shots on goal. Overall, the Bears
were out shot 29-6.
Indiana Tech took a 3-0 lead at the break and
added two goals in the second half.
Freshman Sara Cashdollar tallied 10 saves in
the loss. Indiana Tech's Jordan Roell had four saves.

October 8 @ Kentucky Christian |

The Shawnee
State women’s soccer team defeated Kentucky
Christian in a non-conference match on Friday. The
win moves Shawnee to 8-3 for the season and drops
Kentucky Christian to 5-6.
The Bears
took the lead after 20 minutes of scoreless play
with a goal by Junior Kat Westendorf. That goal was
assisted by senior Kelley Bowles. In the 38th
minute, sophomore Stephanie Rhoads added a second
goal for the Bears. Rhoads’ goal was assisted by
freshman Theresa Welsch. Welsch started off the
second half with a goal of her own in the 50th
minute of play. Rhoads’ gained the assist. Kentucky
Christian answered with a goal in the 73rd minute by
Jessica Proudfoot, but then failed to score again.
Continuing to add to the scoreboard, sophomore Staci
Johnson scored in the 75th minute with help from
Bowles. Sophomore Brittany Brooks concluded the game
with a second goal in 77th minute sealing the
victory for the Bears.
The Bears
outnumbered Kentucky Christian immensely by taking
32 shots and 19 shots on goal. Kentucky Christian
only had four shots and three shots on goal.

October 6 @ Pikeville |
|
The Shawnee State women’s soccer team
defeated Pikeville College 3-1 on the road on
Wednesday evening to improve to 7-3 on the season
and 3-3 in the Mid-South.
Both teams were unable to find the
back of the net in the first half. The Bears
did not hesitate in the second half as sophomore
Marie-Elana Kennedy found junior Katherine
Westendorf in the 50th minute of play to give the
Bears the 1-0 lead. The goal was Westendorf's
fourth of the season. Pikeville answered back
knotting the game at 1-1 in the 58th minute on a
goal by Ashley Crutcher. The Bears regained
the lead on Westendorf's second goal of the game,
fifth of the season on an assist from senior Kelley
Bowles. Shawnee State sealed the win as
sophomore Brittney Brooks, scored her ninth goal of
the season on an assist from Bowles in the 81st
minute of play. Bowles now stands with 11
assists on the season.
The Bears outshot Pikeville 13-7
in the game and 9-4 on shots on goal.

October 2 vs. Lindsey Wilson |
|
The Shawnee State women’s soccer team
was defeated by NAIA No. 10 ranked Lindsey Wilson in
conference action on Saturday, October 2 with a
score of 8-1. The Bears drop to 6-3 overall and 2-3
in the Mid-South Conference.
The Bears kept
the game close allowing only two goals going into
the half. Lindsey Wilson broke out the offense in
the second half and dominated by adding six more
goals to their lead.
Freshman Theresa
Welsch contributed the only Bear goal in the 70th
minute of play.

|
The Shawnee State women's soccer team
fell 2-1 on a late goal at Rio Grande on Wednesday,
dropping the Bears to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in
Mid-South Conference play. Rio Grande improves
to 2-5 on the year with a 1-2 mark in the Mid-South.
Sophomore Brittney Brooks got Shawnee
State on the board in the second minute, scoring a
goal on an assist by Kelley Bowles. Rio Grande
answered just four minutes later though, as Alex
Davis tied the score with her first collegiate goal.
The score remained tied at one until the 72nd minute
when Davis took an assist from Rachel Hoffman and
scored her second goal of the game.
Each team took eight shots in the
contest, with the Bears putting six on goal to Rio
Grande's five. Shawnee's freshman goalkeeper

September 25 vs. St. Catharine |

The Shawnee State women's soccer team
defeated St. Catharine 5-1 in conference action on
Saturday afternoon. The Bears improve to 5-1
overall on the season and 2-1 in Mid-South
standings.
The Bears did not hesitate to
start the scoring as sophomore Brittany Brooks
scored the Bears first goal just within six minutes
of action on her way to her second hat trick of the
season. Freshman Bethany Ward tallied the
assist off of a corner kick. St. Catharine's
struck back knotting the game 1-1 two minutes later
on a goal by Paola Martinez off of a corner kick
from Krista Russell. Brooks answered with her
second goal of the day in the 20th minute of action
on an assist from sophomore Stephanie Rhoads.
Rhoads then scored a goal of her own just over a
minute later off of a corner kick from Ward.
Brooks completed her hat trick in the 37th minute on
Ward's third assist on the day. Two minutes
later senior Kelley Bowles found freshman Jamie
Clevenger to give the Bears the 5-1 advantage at the
break and the eventual win.

The Shawnee State women's soccer team
scored two goals in the second half of play to
defeat West Virginia Tech in conference action on
Thursday afternoon. The Bears improve to 5-1
on the season and 1-1 in the Mid-South. West
Virginia Tech falls to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in
conference play. West
Virginia Tech scored in the 33rd minute on a goal by
Carla Carvalho. The Bears didn't waste anytime
as sophomore Stephanie Rhoads tied the game at 1-1
just 12 seconds into the second half. This is
Rhoads' third goal of the season. Sophomore
Lauren Pritt then scored her first goal of the
season on an assist by Kelley Bowles in the 77th
minute to give the Bears the 2-1 win.

Ohio Christian
University was no match for Shawnee State on
September 20 as the Bears dominated the opposition
with a score of 5-0. Shawnee improves to 4-1
overall and 0-1 in the Mid-South Conference. The
Bears began their offensive assault with a goal by
Stephanie Rhoads with the assist by Kelley Bowles
and Kat Westendorf. During the minute 54
Westendorf headed in a goal of her own off the serve
by Marie-Elana Kennedy. Jamie Clevenger added
another goal off the serve by Bowles during the 63rd
minute of play. Bowles got in on the offensive
action by scoring on a free kick 21 yards out during
minute 77. With ten minutes left Theresa Welch
added the Bears final goal with a header assisted by
Bowles. Shawnee had ten shots on goal while
only allowing Ohio Christian one shot. [Box

new conference foe Georgetown College Saturday
afternoon in a 0-4 match. Shawnee moves to 3-1
overall and 0-1 in the Mid-South Conference.
Georgetown improves their record to 5-1 for the
season and 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference.
Shawnee had four
shots on goal, but struggled to find the net.
Georgetown's scorers were Chelsea Farley, Taylor
Fiest, and Kelsey Ach. Freshman Sara Cashdollar had

The Shawnee State
woman's soccer team defeated Cincinnati Christian
University at Xavier University Wednesday Night. The
Bears improved their record to 3-0 for the season,
while Cincinnati Christian drops to 2-5-1.
Shawnee State
recorded nine shots on goal and found the net twice
during the match. Goal scorers were sophomore
Brittany Brooks in the 11th minute and senior Kelley
Bowles in the 64th minute. Brooks was assisted by
junior Marie-Elana Kennedy.

Mountain State |

The
Shawnee
State Women's Soccer team opened their new home
field, Shawnee Turf, in style with a dominating 10-1
victory over Mountain State University Wednesday
afternoon. "It was nice to able to open up our new
facility in this fashion," said head coach Rob
Appell. "There were a lot of people who put in a
great deal of hard work and we cannot thank them
enough for their support and dedication."
The scoring starting early for the Bears (2-0) as
sophomore Brittany Brooks scored the first goal on
the new artificial turf in the sixth minute and then
continued her march toward her first career hat
trick as she tallied the next two goals before 10
minutes of game time had elapsed. Junior Kat
Westendorf scored her first goal of the year at the
23 minute mark and the route was on from there.
Shawnee State continued the balanced attack by
scoring a total of eight times in the first half by
four different players; Kelley Bowles with two,
Westendorf with two, and Jamie Clevenger adding
one. The scoring continued in the second half as
Bowles, a senior, finished off her first career hat
trick and then added another for a career high four
goals in the match. "We did some things in the
second half that I thought were good and are going
to help us down the road," said Appell. "It was an
all around solid effort from our entire team."

The Shawnee State
women's soccer team won their season opener August
29 against former conference rival Carlow
University. Senior midfielder Kelley Bowles
kicked off the season in style as she quickly scored
an unassisted ground shot from the right side with
43:34 left in the first half to give the Bears a 1-0
lead. With a little over 24 minutes left in
the half Carlow midfielder Marla Sasko tied the game
1-1 on a hard drive from the left corner. With 32:34
remaining in the second half sophomore forward
Stephanie Rhoads scored on a rebound goal on the
shot by junior Marie-Elana Kennedy giving her the
assist. The Bears increased their lead to
three with 1:47 left on the clock when freshman
forward Jamie Clevenger scored from the left side
with an assist by Bowles. With 49 seconds left
in the game Carlow midfielder Alyssa Tlumac scored
on a penalty kick to bring them within one but their
late rally was subdued by the Bears as they went on
to win 3-2.
Shawnee State was out shot 13-9 in shots on goal.
Freshman Sara Cashdollar played 90 minutes and
tallied six saves in her first appearance in goal at
Shawnee State University.
