Northwestern High
School's Stephanie Cleland has signed a letter of intent to
continue her running career at Shawnee State.
Cleland is a four year letter winner in cross country and three
year letter winner in track. During her freshman and sophomore
seasons, she helped guide the Warriors to back-to-back CBC
Championships.
She is a three-year state qualifier. As a senior, she ran
a career best of 19:29. At the state meet she placed 63rd in a
time of 19:46. In track her career bests were 5:38 in the mile
and 12:28 in the two mile.
"Stephanie should come in and immediately make our top 7,"
states Bears' Head Coach Eric Putnam. "I am thrilled that she is
coming to Shawnee State."
Cleland is the second Springfield Northwestern runner on the
Bears' roster. She joins 2009 Springfield Northwestern graduate
Kasey Hosier.
While attending Shawnee State, Cleland plans to study Secondary
Mathematics Education.
Shawnee State
completed their first season in the Mid-South Conference
where they captured their first conference title in school
history. The Bears also earned their second bid to the
