Michael Owen placed
third in the marathon at the NAIA National Championship
meet in Marion, Indiana over the weekend. Owen ran the
26.2 mile course in a time of 2:30:07.40, finishing less
than three minutes behind the winner Daniel Tubei of
Park University.
Owen wasn't the only Bear competing at
the NAIA National Meet. Sara Armstrong ran a 17:33.52 in
the prelims of the 5,000 meter run to qualify for the
finals. In the finals, Armstrong placed 16th with a time
of 18:20.21.
Brad Liston ran the men's 5,000 meter
and placed 18th in the prelims with a time of 15:02.06.
Galen Dills and Chuck Wentz competed
in the 10,000 meter run. Dills placed 32nd overall in a
time of 31:46.82, while Wentz finished 34th with a time
of 31:49.48. |

November 20 @ NAIA National Meet |
|
The Shawnee
State men’s cross country team placed fourth at the NAIA
National Championship in Vancouver, Washington again
this year. Galen Dills was the first Bear to finish,
with a time of 25:45. Michael Owen finished in 26
minutes flat, placing 40th overall. Keegan
Rathkamp was close behind, placing 42nd with
a time of 26:02. Chuck Wentz finished 4th at
26:27 and Josh Linkous rounded out the top five at
26:36. [Results]
Shawnee State women’s cross country team placed 25th
at the NAIA National Championship in Vancouver,
Washington this year, their second time competing in the
National Championship in school history. Sara Armstrong
was the first finisher on the team with a time of 19:06,
placing 71st out of 331. Brittney Lipira
finished second, placing 147th (105th)
with a time of 19:40. Kasey Hosier was third, 171/121,
with a time of 19:47. Freshmen Sarah Ruggles and Ashley
Peters finished out the top five, with times of 20:21

November 6 @ Mid-South Conference Meet

In just their first season in the Mid-South
Conference the Shawnee State women's cross country team won the
Conference Meet to earn a bid to the NAIA National Meet. This
is the first regular season title the women's team has won.
Shawnee State won the meet with a score of 35 points, while the
University of the Cumberlands finished second with 51 points.
Junior Sara Armstrong (Sylvania, OH)
blew the competition away as she won the meet in a time
of 18:16, finishing 36 seconds ahead of the rest of the
field. Junior Brittney LiPira (Thornville, OH)
placed third in a time of 18:54, while sophomore Kasey
Hosier (Springfield, OH) ran the course in 19:06 to
place sixth overall. Freshman Ashley Peters (Mt.
Gilead, OH) ran the course in a personal best of 19:44
to place 11th overall. Freshman Sarah Ruggles
(Franklin Furnace, OH) placed 14th as she finished the
course in a time of 20:01. Juniors Amanda Burton
(Waverly, OH) and Brianna McCauley (Canton, OH) rounded
out the Bears scoring as they placed 16th and 17th in
times of 20:17 and 20:31. [Results]

October 23 @ Great Lakes Challenge |
|
The Shawnee State women's cross country team
finished third out of 24 teams with a score of 158 points at the
Great Lakes Challenge at Aquinas College on Saturday. NAIA No.
25 ranked Olivet Nazarene took the title with 71 points, while No.
18 Aquinas finished second with 100 points.
Four of the Bears seven top runners
ran the 5000 meters in personal records. Juniors
Sara Armstrong and Brittney LiPira crushed their
previous personal bests. Armstrong led the Bears
with a fourth place finish, completing the course in
18:07, knocking 29 seconds off her best time.
LiPira placed 21st overall in a personal record of
18:43, cutting 21 seconds off her best time.
Freshman Kasey Hosier placed 23rd overall in 18:51,
while freshmen Sarah Ruggles and Ashley Peters ran
personal records of 19:40 and 19:45 to place 53rd and
57th overall. Juniors Brianna McCauley and Amanda
Burton rounded out the scoring for the Bears finished
81st and 93rd overall. McCauley finished the
course in 20:11, while Burton ran 20:26.
Juniors Torey Predmore and Kala Conn
both registered personal records on the meet, as well as
sophomore Maria Lancianese and freshman Brianna Cahill.

October 8 @ Shawnee State Invitational |
|
The Shawnee State women's cross country team
finished 2nd at the Shawnee State Invitational on Friday afternoon.
The Bears finished with a team score of 45 points, while Cleveland
State won the meet with 41 points.
SSU's Sara Armstrong won the meet.
Armstrong, a junior, ran the 5,000 meters in a time of
18:53. Sophomore Kasey Hosier finished second
overall in 19:04. Freshman Sarah Ruggles ran the
course in 20:11 to place 11th overall, while senior
Brittney LiPira finished 15th in 20:54. Placing
18th and 19th for the Bears were juniors Amanda Burton
and Brianna McCauley, both running the course in 21:08.
Junior Torey Predmore rounded out the scoring for the
Bears placing 33rd in 22:04. [Results] |

October 1 @ All-Ohio |
|
The Shawnee State women's cross country team
finished 4th in the Division II/NAIA Division and 17th overall with
a score of 581 at the All-Ohio Meet at Cedarville University on
Friday afternoon. Miami University won the meet with a score
of 43, followed by Dayton with a score of 92.
Junior Sara Armstrong led the Bears
with a time of 18:40. In a field of 284 runners,
Armstrong finished 44th overall. Her time of 18:40
places her 22nd on SSU's all-time fastest times.
Freshman Kasey Hosier had a career race, finishing 54th
overall in a time of 18:47 to become SSU's 5th fastest
runner in school history. Junior Brittney LiPira
finished 110th overall in 19:29, while freshman Sarah
Ruggles finished with a personal best time of 19:49 to
place 140th. Junior Amanda Burton finished 170th
in a time of 20:20 and freshman Ashley Peters finished
172th in 20:21. Junior Brianna McCauley rounded
out the scoring for the Bears as she ran the course in
20:49 to place 194th. [Results] |

September 18 @ Iona College Meet of
Champions |
|
The Shawnee State women's cross country team
finished 11th out of 18 teams at the Iona College Meet of Champions
on Saturday morning. Shawnee State finished with
383 points, defeating Harvard and Youngstown State.
Kentucky won the event with 62 points, while Brown
finished 2nd with 64 points.
Junior Sara Armstrong led the Bears
with a 36th place finish in a time of 23:14.
Sophomore Kasey Hosier placed 71st in a time of 24:04,
while junior Brittney LiPira finished in a time of 24:15
to place 79th overall. Freshmen Sarah Ruggles and
Ashley Peters finished the course in time of 24:57 and
25:12 to finish 96th and 101st respectively.
Juniors Amanda Burton and Brianna McCauley rounded out
the scoring for the Bears finishing 107th and 110th in
times of 25:41 and 26:38. [Results] |

September 4 @ Flyer 5K Challenge

|
The Shawnee State women's cross country team
finished 3rd out of eight teams in the Intercollegiate
division at the Meijer Flyer 5K Challenge on Saturday.
Ohio Northern won the 5K race with 35 team points, followed
by Cedarville with 49 points. The Bears finished with
70 points.
Junior Sara Armstrong had a stellar race
as she finished 12th overall. Armstrong, who is this
week's Mid-South Conference Runner of the Week, finished the
course in a time of 18:36 to become the 3rd fastest runner
at Shawnee State behind All-Americans Lisa Davies and Star
Emmert. Junior Brittney LiPira finished 33rd overall
and she finished the course in 19:32. Sophomore Kasey
Hosier placed 55th in a time of 20:06 followed by freshman
Sara Ruggles who ran a 20:07 in her college debut to finish
57th. In her debut freshman Ashley Peters finished
64th in a time of 20:23. Juniors Amanda Burton and
Brianna McCauley rounded out the scoring for the Bears as
they finished 69th and 85th overall in times of 20:33 and
