March 16 vs. Northwestern (IA) (National
Championship) |

After a spectacular run in the NAIA National Tournament,
Shawnee State’s run came to a disappointing end as they fell
to Northwestern (IA) by a score of 85-66 in the NAIA
Division II National Championship game. The Bears’ could
not seem to get things rolling as they trailed the entire
game and struggled shooting as they shot 33% from the field
in the game. Northwestern jumped out
to an early 5-0 lead, before senior Mallory Albers got the
Bears on the board with a jumper off an offensive rebound by
senior Alison Meyer. Northwestern, who shot an impressive
49% from the floor in the first half, extended their lead to
10 (18-8) with 11:15 remaining in the first half. The Bears
rallied back and cut the lead to 22-18 on a second chance
bucket by Albers, but the Raiders outscored the Bears 28-19
to close out the half and tally a 46-27 lead at the break. The Bears’ continued to
struggle in the second half. Junior Jill Cropper opened the
second half with her third 3-pointer of the contest, but
Northwestern hit back-to-back buckets to extend their lead
to over 20. Senior Whitney Williams hit a 3-pointer of her
to cut the lead to 18, but Northwestern answered again with
a 6-0 run and went on to lengthen their lead to 34 (74-40)
with 9:36 remaining in the game. The Bears finished the
game outscoring the Raiders 26-11 to tally the final
margin. Albers led the Bears
with 16 points, to go along with a team-high eight rebounds,
four steals, and two steals in her final game as a Bear.
Cropper contributed 14 points, hitting 3-of-3 from beyond
the arc, and three assists in the game. In their final
games, seniors Alison Meyer and Whitney Williams added 10
and nine points, respectively. Meyer added seven rebounds
in the loss. Shawnee State was out
shot 44% to 33% in the game and 42% to 27% from beyond the
arc. The Bears converted -11of-13 attempts at the charity
strip for 85%, while the Raiders went 17-for-22 at the line
for 77%. Albers was named 1st
Team All-Tournament and received the tournament’s Hustle
Award, while Meyer was named 2nd Team
All-Tournament. Five Bears were named NAIA Scholar Athletes
this week. Seniors Mallory Albers, Alison Meyer, Whitney
Williams, along with juniors Jill Cropper and Keilee Guthrie
all earned the Scholar Athlete status as they have
accumulated a 3.5 or above grade point average. [Box

March 15 vs. Indiana Wesleyan (Final Four) |

Bears battle to a 55-54 victory over Indiana Wesleyan
University to earn a spot in tomorrow’s National
Championship Game. Freshman Catrice Mitchell scored her
only basket of the game after a mad scramble in the paint
for a loose ball to give the Bears a one point lead with 5.8
seconds. IWU was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer.
Both teams hit big shot after big shot in one of the most
exciting games of the tournament. The balanced Bears’
attack was able to overcome an early 10 point second half
deficit. The veteran Bears, seniors Mallory Albers, Alison
Meyer, and Whitney Williams, and junior Jill Cropper, all
contributed key baskets down the stretch to complete the
comeback. However, it was the youngsters, sophomore Abby
Ballman and Mitchell, who made the plays at the end of the
game. Ballman, who led the Bears in scoring with 12, hit
her third 3-pointer of the game with 49 second remaining in
the game to give the Bears’ the 53-52 advantage. IWU
answered with a jumper by Elaine Hessel with 33 second left
in the game. The Bears’ set up for the final shot of the
game. Albers got a good look with a 3-pointer, but came up
short, but Ballman came up big as she scrambled for the
offensive rebound and dished the ball to Mitchell for the
game winning lay-up.
Shawnee State’s balanced offense saw six players in the
scoring column, four of which scored double-figures.
Ballman had an all-around great game as she led the Bear’s
with 12 points, pulled down six rebounds, had four steals,
and three assists in the game. Albers also tallied 12
points for the Bears, while Meyer contributed 11 points and
three blocks for the Bears. Cropper added 10 points and a
team-high seven rebounds. In the defensive battle, neither team shot well in the
game. The Bears went 17-for-47 in the game for 36%, while
the Wildcats made 16-for-48 shots from the floor for 38%.
From beyond the arc, Shawnee State shot 33%, hitting 5 of
their 15 attempts. IWU converted on 8 of their 23 attempts
for 35%. At the charity strip, the Bears converted on
16-of-22 attempts for 73%. The Wildcats went 10-for-12 at

“We want to go out with a bang,” says sophomore guard Abby
Ballman, talking about the Bears move out of NAIA Division
II and their move in Division I. “I want to do this for the
seniors, since it’s their last year. This is special team
that understands the importance of team work and hard work
on and off the floor.” This is the second time in school history
that the Bears have played in the National Championship.
Shawnee State took home the title in 1999, after defeating
Saint Francis (IN) 80-65.

March 13 vs. Grand View (Elite Eight) |

Shawnee State finished the game on a 21-10 run to pull away
from Grand View College.
The Bears set the pace from the tip-off and never trailed as
they jumped out to a 20-13 lead. The Vikings cut the lead
to two with 9:44 left in the first half, but the Bears
responded with eight straight points, to lengthen to lead to
10. Grand View then made a run of their own as they reeled
off six points to cut the lead to within four. The Bears
answered finishing the half on a 12-2 run to lead the
Vikings 40-26 at the break. The senior duo of Alison Meyer
and Mallory Albers led the Bears attack as they combined for
28 of the Bear’s 40 halftime points.
Shawnee State did not let down in the second half as they
controlled a double-digit lead most of the half. The
Vikings cut the lead to seven early in the half, but that is
as close as they would get, as sophomore Abby Ballman and
senior Whitney Williams hit back-to-back 3-pointers to
stretch the lead back to double-figures. The Bears
controlled the double-digit lead the remainder of the game
and outscored the Vikings 21-10 to tally the final score of
75-55.
Meyer and Albers finished the game scoring 45 of the Bears
75 points. Meyer finished the game with a career-high 24
points, shooting 6-for-11 in the game, 3-for-3 from beyond
the arc. She also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Albers was the only other Bear in double figures as she
added 21 points, five rebounds, five steals, four assists,
and two blocks. Williams added nine points for the Bears,
hitting three 3-pointers in the game.
Grand View was led by Jennifer Jorgensen who tallied 16
points in the game. Jamie Sickles and Bailey Schechinger
added 10 points apiece. Shawnee State out shot the Vikings 45% (25-for-56) to 35%
(18-for-52) in the game. The Bears shot well from beyond
the arc as they made 11-of-22 for 50%, while Grand View made
3-of-11 attempts for 27%. At the line the Bears converted
14-of-21 attempts for 67%. The Vikings went 16-for-19 at

“I am very excited to play in the Final Four,” says Meyer of
the win. “This is the best thing that has happen so far and
we are glad we are here. This means so much to us; it has
been such a hard year for us, especially since we did not
even know if coach would be able to coach us. That makes
this that much better that we get to share this experience
with her as a team and family.” Shawnee State
moves onto the Final Four for the third time in school
history.

March 12 vs. Aquinas (Second Round NAIA

The Shawnee State women’s
basketball team survived cold shooting in the second half to
go onto defeat Aquinas College 72-66 in the Sweet Sixteen of
the NAIA Tournament. The Bears, who have been plagued with
early knockouts in the past few years, move onto the
Quarterfinals for the first time since 2001. Shawnee State came out hot; making 11 of
their first 15 shots to take a 27-13 lead halfway through
the first half. Led by senior Mallory Albers, who scored
all of her 21 points in the first half, the Bears controlled
a double-digit lead over the Saints much of the first half.
Aquinas cut the Bears’ lead to eight with 5:49 remaining in
the first half, but the Bears outscored the Saints 14-10 to
end the half to take the 43-31 advantage at the break. Shawnee State’s cold shooting paired with
Aquinas’s stand out player Joslyn Nabar, Aquinas fought back
into the ball game. Aquinas started the half on a 6-1 run,
before junior Jill Cropper scored a basket and converted the
free throw to extend the lead back to double-digits. After
the two teams traded baskets, senior Whitney Williams’
drained a jump shot to put the Bears up 12 with 6:54
remaining in regulation. Aquinas reeled off 10 straight
points to cut the lead to two. Williams then drained a
three pointer to lengthen the lead back to five. Nabar hit
back-to-back buckets for the Saints to put Aquinas within
one. The Bears answered with a 3-pointer by
sophomore Abby Ballman. Aquinas’ Kaitlin Lang converted
1-of-2 free throws to cut SSU’s lead to three. Freshman
Catrice Mitchell pulled down a huge offensive rebound for
the Bears and then converted both free throws to extend the
lead to five. AC’s Taelor Sanders cut the lead to four
after making 1of-2 at the line with 2:46 remaining, but
Shawnee State held off Aquinas’ charge as they made 7-of 8
free throws down the stretch to cap off the 72-66 victory. “We just didn’t make shots, we had open looks
we just couldn’t put it in.” says Head Coach Robin
Hagen-Smith about the Bears struggle in the second half.
“The important thing is that we kept shooting. It feels good to pick up these wins. “It has been a long time and it especially
nice with this group of ladies. They have had a challenging
year and have overcome a lot of obstacles. It is great
seeing them play with their intensity, passion, and game
faces; they feel like they have a lot to prove.” Cropper lead the Bears in scoring with 22
points, hitting 10-for-10 from the charity strip, including
six free throws in the final minute to secure the win for
the Bears. Cropper also pulled down seven rebounds.
Albers added 21 points, while Mitchell came off the bench
for the Bears to tally nine points and a team-high 14
rebounds. Sophomore Abby Ballman added 10 rebounds and
tallied two steals in the game to break SSU’s record for
steals in a season with 111. Aquinas was led by Nabar’s 34 point
performance. “There is no answer for her,” said
Hagen-Smith. “She is a phenomenal player.” Sanders added
10 for the Saints. Even though the Bears’ have made it to the
Quarterfinals for the first time in nine years, they aren’t
satisfied. “Now that we have got this far, we have enough
confidence that we can go all the way,” said senior Mallory
Albers. “No matter what the outcome is these girls
have played hard,” said Hagen-Smith. |

March 10 vs. Haskell (Opening Round NAIA
Tournament) |

The Shawnee State women’s basketball team defeated Haskell
Indian Nations easily in the First Round of the NAIA
National Tournament. The Bears, which lead 31-24 at the
break, outscored the Indians 48-16 in the second half to go
onto to win 79-40.Senior Alison Meyer led Shawnee State’s balanced offense in the
first half as she scored the Bears’ first nine points of the
game to give SSU the 9-5 lead. The Bears got quality
minutes from their bench as junior Keilee Guthrie came off
the bench and drained a 3-pointer to give the Bears their
largest lead of the half (14-5) with 12:58 remaining in the
game. The two teams played back-and-forth and Haskell cut
the lead to 21-19 with 4:39 remaining. Back-to-back baskets
by freshmen Catrice Mitchell and Alex Pohl extended the lead
back to six. A free throw and a bucket by Nicole Little Sun
cut the lead to three, but the Bears answered as Mitchell
found senior Mallory Albers in the open court on the fast
break. Haskell’s Maria Parker scored with 1:52 remaining
cutting the lead back to three. Shawnee State extended the
lead on an Albers drive and kick out to senior Whitney
Williams. Williams drained her first 3-pointer of the game
to tie SSU’s record for 3-pointers in a season with 92.
Junior Jill Cropper made 1-of-2 free throws to tally the
score at 31-24 at the break. Shawnee State came out strong
in the second half and shot a scorching 60% from the field
and 78% from beyond the arc hitting 7-of-9 attempts. The
Bears began the half on a 12-0 run and extended their run to
18-2 as Williams hit her second 3-pointer of the game,
breaking the SSU record with 93 on the season. The Bears
lengthened their lead to as many of 40 in the second half as
they went onto win 79-40.The Bears’ found 11 players in the
scoring column and four players in double-figures. Albers
led the Bears’ balanced offense with 13 points to go along
with five rebounds and three assists. Meyer added 12 points
and a team-high seven rebounds. Williams and Cropper each
contributed 10 points for the Bears, while Abby Ballman
added nine points and eight steals.The Indians were lead by
Maria Parker and Autumn Burtt who were the only players in
double-figures with 10 apiece. Shawnee State shot 47% in the
game, while Haskell Indian Nations shot 36%. From beyond
the arc, the Bears outshot Haskell 42% (10-for-24) to 25%
(3-for-12). At the charity strip, Shawnee State converted
on 7-of-13 attempts for 54%, while Haskell went 2-for-6 for

February 27 vs. Walsh (Semi-finals of AMC Tournament) |

The No. 2 seed and No. 8 NAIA ranked Shawnee
State women's team fell in a heartbreaker on their home
floor 65-64 to No. 3 seed and No. 24 NAIA ranked Walsh in
the semi-finals of the American Mideast Conference
Tournament. The loss snaps the Bears' 44
straight winning streak at home, that started at the
beginning of the 2007 season. In a game of runs, Walsh
got on the board first with a jumper by Kayla Kovach.
Senior Whitney Williams opened the Bears' scoring with a
3-pointer to take the lead. The Bears maintained the
lead, until the Cavaliers went on a 9-0 run to go up 15-10.
Both teams exchanged buckets and Shawnee State slowly cut
the Cavaliers lead. Williams hit back-to-back 3-point
goals and senior Mallory Albers followed with one of her own
to allow the Bears to regain the lead and go up 28-22.
The Cavaliers followed with a run of their own as they
finished the half on a 16-0 run, giving them the 38-28
advantage at the break. The Cavaliers maintained a
double-digit lead for most of the first twelve minutes of
the second half. The Bears cut the deficit to nine on
a bucket and the foul shot by senior Alison Meyer.
Albers followed with a lay-up cutting the lead to seven.
Both teams exchange a pair of free throws and then Meyer
found the lane and cut the Cavaliers lead to five on a
lay-up. Sophomore Abby Ballman converted two free
throws of her own to cut the lead to three. Walsh's
Jessie Miller found Cara Bedard for a jumper to extend the
lead back to five with just under two minutes remaining in
the game. On the next possession Meyer drove the lane
and found Albers on the wing for a 3-pointer to cut the lead
to two with 1:41 remaining. Bedard answered on the
other end with a jumper of her own to extend the lead back
to four. Albers sank two free throws with 1:08
remaining to cut the lead back to two. Shawnee State
locked down their defense and with a missed jumper by Walsh
with 39 seconds left, gave the Bears their opportunity to
either send the game into overtime or to take the win.
The Bears executed two plays but couldn't find the bottom of
basket as they fell 65-63 in the game. Albers led all
scorers with 20 points in the game. She also tallied
six rebounds, four assists, and two steals for the Bears.
Williams contributed 17 points, hitting 5-for-8 from beyond
the arc. Williams has really come on lately as she has
hit five or more 3-point goals in the last four games.
Meyer added 12 pints for the Bears. Kayla Kovach led
the Cavaliers with 19 points and seven rebounds, while
Bedard added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Cavaliers.
Jessie Miller was the only other Cavaliers in double-figures
with 10 points. Walsh out shot the Bears 48%
(27-for-56) to 41% (20-for-49) in the game. Shawnee
State had the advantage from beyond the arc, as the Bears
hit 9-of-19 attempts for 47%. Walsh made 5-of-14
attempts for 36%. At the charity strip, the Bears
connected on 15-of-21 attempts in the game, hitting

Shawnee State had little problem as they
defeated Houghton College 73-48 in the First Round of the
AMC Tournament. After the game was at seven with 14:32
remaining in the first half, the Bears rattled off a 7-0 run
and never trailed the rest of the game. Houghton cut
the Bears early lead to three on a jumper by Ashley Dupler
with 11:51 remaining, but SSU's senior Whitney Williams hit
two consecutive 3-pointers to extend the lead back to seven.
The Highlander cut the lead to three again with 7:48
remaining, but Williams hit another triple and the Bears
then went on a 17-3 run to end the first half, leading
37-20. Williams tallied 20 of her game-high 23 points in the
first half, draining four of her five 3-pointers. The
Bears continued to work hard in the second as they lengthen
their lead to 23 with 14:31 to go in the game.
Houghton cut the lead top 16 with just over five minutes
remaining in the contest. However, the Bears answered
back in a big way as they hit back-to-back-to-back
3-pointers, two by freshman Allison Nagle and one by
Williams, to stretch the lead to 25 and seal the victory as
the Bears would go on to win 73-48. Williams led all
scorers with 23 points, to go with a team-high seven
rebounds. She shot 50% in the game hitting 8-of-16
shots and draining 5-of-10 3-pointers. Senior Mallory
Albers was the only other Bear in double-figures as she
tallied 13 in the contest. Freshman Catrice Mitchell
came of the bench to tally nine points, five rebounds, and
four block shots. Freshman Alex Pohl added seven
rebounds, while sophomore Abby Ballman had eight assists and
four steals in the game. Houghton was led by Ashley
Dupler who tallied a double-double with 13 points and 12
rebounds. Leah French added 12 points for the
Highlanders. The Bears out shot the Highlanders 43%
(25-for-58) to 32% (21-for-66) in the game. From
beyond the arc the Bears hit a scorching 53%, draining
9-of-17. The Highlanders made only 3-of-18 3-pointers
in the game for 17%. From the charity strip, Shawnee
State connected on 14-of-21 for 67%. Houghton

February 20 vs. Cedarville |

On
Senior Day and the last game of the regular season, Shawnee
State had a strong performance as they knocked off NAIA No.
3 ranked Cedarville University at home.
The two teams battled back-and-forth and
Cedarville led 17-14 with 12:19 remaining in the first half.
However, the Bears went on a 24-10 run to end the half and
take a 38-27 lead at the break. Shawnee State did not
let up in the second half as they outscored the Yellow
Jackets 38-27 in half and stretching their lead to as many
as 28 at times. Shawnee State's defense can be created
to the win. The Bears held Cedarville to their second
lowest score of the season and held their top two scorers to
a combined 11 points. Alison Lemon and Aubrey Siemon
came into the game averaging 17 and 15 points per game.
Caitlyn Brooks was Cedarville's only player in
double-figures as she tallied 11 in the game. Shawnee
State out shot the Yellow Jackets, 42% (29-for-59) to 31%
(21-for-67) in the game. From beyond the arc, the
Bears shot a scorching 50%, making 10-of-20 attempts.
Cedarville made only three 3-pointers in the game, all
coming in the second half, shooting 14% from beyond the arc.
At the line the Bears connected on 8-of11 attempts for 73%,
while Cedarville went 9-for-14 at the line for 64%. [Box

Seniors Mallory Albers and Whitney Williams had huge nights
for the Bears as they lead Shawnee State to a 83-72 victory
at Mount Vernon. Albers poured
in 32 points, just one shy of career-high, and pulled down
10 rebounds to lead the Bears. Williams tallied a
career-high 29 points in the game, draining eight 3-pointers
in the game and tying the SSU record for 3-pointers made in
the game. Both teams fought hard in the first half as there
were six lead changes. The Bears had the largest lead
of the half as they led 15-8 with just over 12 minutes
remaining in the game. Mount Vernon stretched their
largest lead to five with 30 seconds remaining, but Williams
drained a 3-pointer and got fouled with a second to go.
She hit her free throw and cut MVNU's lead to 33-32 at the
break. The second half started as a back-and-forth
battle, but the Bears stretched their lead to a two
possession game with 13:00 minutes remaining and would never
trail again in the game. Mount Vernon cut the lead to
69-66 with 3:42 left in the game, but that would be as close
as they could get as the Bears clinched the win as they hit
12-of-15 free throws in the final two minutes.
Sophomore Abby Ballman was the only other Bear in
double-figures as she tallied 11 points. She also had
five assists and five steals in the game. Junior Jill
Cropper added eight points and eight rebounds in the game.
Mount Vernon was lead by Amanda Himes who tallied 16 points
and 16 rebounds, while Sierra Fletcher added 14 points and
eight assists for the Cougars. Melissa Eickholt and
Kelli Pollock added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Shawnee State went 28-for-58 in the game, shooting 48% from
the field. Mount Vernon shot 40% in the game, as they
made 24-of-60 attempts. From beyond the arc the Bears
made 10-of-21 attempts for 48%, while Mount Vernon drained
11-of-25 for 44%. At the line the Bears converted on
17-of-25 attempts for 68%. Mount Vernon went 13-for-16

February 18 vs. Carlow |
|
NAIA No. 9 ranked Shawnee State began the game on a 13-0 run
and never looked back as the Bears went on to win 94-50 over
Carlow University on Thursday evening.
Shawnee State led 48-29 at the half and then
outscored the Celtics 46-21 in the second half. Eleven
Bears saw action in the game and each player got in the
scoring column. Senior Mallory Albers led the Bears
with 19 points, as she went 8-for-13 from the floor, to go
along with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Sophomore Abby Ballman had 13 points in the game, five
steals, three rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in the
game. Freshman Alex Pohl tallied a career-high 13
points. She added five rebounds and three blocks for
the Bears. Freshman Catrice Mitchell just missed a
double-double as she scored 12 points and pulled down nine
rebounds. Shawnee State out shot the Celtics 48% (34-for-71)
to 27% (16-for-60) in the game. The Bears connected on
6-of-17 3-pointers for 35%, while Carlow made 4-for-20 for
20%. At the line the Bears went 20-for-33 for 61%.

Shawnee State won big as they defeated Wilberforce
University 111-75.
The Bears
allowed the Bulldogs to hang around for the first five
minutes of the ballgame, but the Bears then took control and
extended a 61-41 lead at the half. Shawnee State then
outscored the Bulldogs 50-34 in the second half to tally the
final score. All eleven Shawnee State players saw
playing time and each found themselves in the scoring
column. Senior Mallory Albers led the Bears with 22
points to go along with six rebounds, three assists, two
steals, and one block. Junior Jill Cropper just missed
a double-double as she scored 16 points and pulled down nine
rebounds. She also dished out three assists. Senior
Whitney Williams contributed 15 points, four rebounds, and
four assists. Freshman Catrice Mitchell had 12 points,
five rebounds, and two blocks for the Bears, while freshman
Alex Pohl added 10 points and five rebounds. Sophomore
Abby Ballman and freshman Aimee Hall added nine points each
for the Bears. Wilberforce was led by Deidra Brown who
tallied a game high 27 points. Andrecia Smith and
Leilani Rhynehardt added 12 and 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Shawnee State out shot the Bulldogs 51% (40-for-78) to 44%
(29-for-66) in the game. The Bears drained five
3-pointers in the game, shooting 39% from beyond the arc.
Wilberforce made three 3-pointers in the game, shooting 18%
from beyond the arc. At the line, the Bears made
26-of-33 attempts for 79%, while Wilberforce made 14-of-22

|
Shawnee
State, who fell to Walsh earlier this season 64-61, avenged
their loss as they defeated Walsh 78-49. After being
down 7-3 early, the Bears went on a 10-0 run and never
looked back as they lead 39-25 at the break. In the
second half, Shawnee State kept the tempo up as they never
let the Cavaliers get within 14 points in the contest.
The Bears outscored the Cavaliers 39-24 in second half as
they went on to win 78-49. The Bears had stellar
performances from senior Mallory Albers, sophomore Abby
Ballman, and junior Jill Cropper. Albers tallied
a double-double as she scored 18 points and pulled down 11
rebounds. She also had six assists, three steals, and
two blocks in the game. Ballman scored 18 points to go
along with seven steals, five rebounds, three assists, and
two blocks. Cropper also added a double-double with 17
points and 11 rebounds. Senior Whitney Williams nailed
three 3-pointers in the game for nine points. Jessie Miller
was the only Cavalier in double figures with 19.
Shawnee State out shot the Cavaliers 35% to 30% in the game.

In a battle of NAIA Division II top 10 teams, #7 Shawnee
State University lost to #3 Cedarville University 82-71 on
Thursday afternoon. Shawnee State
played catch up most of the game, but never could get over
the hump to take a lead. The balanced Cedarville
offense lead by as many as 11 in the first half, but the
Bears would make a run to cut the lead to four, but the
Yellow Jackets surged and lead 38-29 at the break.
Cedarville began the second half on a 10-2 run and
Cedarville lengthened their lead to as many as 18 just over
15 minutes left in the game. The Bears battled back
and cut the Yellow Jacket lead to two with 6:23 remaining in
regulation, but the Yellow Jackets sealed the victory as
they hit 15-of-16 free throws down the stretch as they went
on to win 82-71. Sophomore Abby Ballman lead the Bears
with 19 points, 17 of them coming in the second half.
She also dished out five assists in the game. Junior
Jill Cropper and senior Whitney Williams added 13 points
apiece. Cropper also pulled down six rebounds.
Mallory Albers contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, and
four assists in the game. Cedarville's Alison Lemon
led all scorers with 21 points to go along with six rebounds
and five assists. Aubrey Siemon scored 19 points and
pulled down 21 rebounds in the game for the Yellow Jackets.
Lydia Miller and Caitlyn Brooks added 18 and 10 point
respectively. Both team shot below their season
averages, as the Bears shot 39% from the field and the

The #8 ranked Shawnee State Bears had little trouble as they
defeated Ursuline College 91-61 to win their seventh
straight game. Shawnee State never trailed in the game and
jumped out to an early 23-8 lead. The Bears stretched
their lead as much as 21 in the first half and was up
44-25 at the break. The Bears continued to roll in the
second half and extended their lead to 36 with just over
five minutes remaining the game and went on to win 91-61.
Shawnee State had a balanced attack offensively as 11 Bears
made it in the scoring column as five Bears scored in double
figures. Junior Jill Cropper had a big night as she
tallied 21 points, shooting 9-for-12 from the floor, and
pulling down eight rebounds. Senior Alison Meyer and
freshman Catrice Mitchell each tallied 11 points. Meyer
added four assists. Freshman Allison Nagle came off
the bench for a career-high 10 points, while senior Mallory
Albers added 10 points for the Bears. Laura Campbell
led Ursuline with 23 points, while Krysti Tietze added 17
points. Brittany Nair tallied a double-double for the
Arrows with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Shawnee State

Shawnee
State won its sixth straight game as the Bears defeated the
University of Northwestern Ohio Racers 82-65 on Tuesday
evening. Northwestern Ohio jumped out to an early 14-7
lead, but the Bears rattled off 17 straight points to take a
24-14 lead. The Bears were up by as many as 12 in the
first half and went into the break leading 34-25. The
Racers came out in the second and hit two quick baskets to
cut the lead to six, but the Bears answered as senior Ali
Meyer rattled in two baskets and two free throws to give the
Bears the double digit lead. Shawnee State lead by as
many as 26 with 7:24 to go in the game and went on to win
82-65. Meyer led the Bears with a game high 20 points
as she went 5-for-6 from the floor and hit 10-of-12 free
throws on the night. She also had five rebounds.
Junior Jill Cropper added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman Catrice Mitchell came off the bench to tally a
double-double with 12 points and a career-high 18 rebounds
to go with four blocks. Senior Mallory Albers
just missed a double-double as she tallied 12 points and
pulled down nine rebounds to go along with five assists and
three steals. Sophomore Abby Ballman dished out seven
assists in the game. The Racers were led by Amanda
Francis who tallied 16 points. Ashley Jackson added 13
points, four steals, and three blocks for UNOH.
Shawnee State shot 36% (26-for-72) in the game, compared to
UNOH who shot 33% (20-for-61). The Bears didn't fair
well from beyond the arc as the Bears made only 4-of-22
attempts for 18%, while the Racers drained 9-of-35 attempts

wasn't enough as the Bears went on to win 83-71.
Senior
Mallory Albers lead all scorers as she poured in a
career-high 33 points. In the game she went 7-for-15
from the floor, as she nailed five 3-pointers in the game.
At the line she hit 14-of-14 attempts. Albers also
pulled down five rebounds, dished out three assists and had
two steals in the game. Senior Alison Meyer added a
double-double for the Bears as she scored 13 points and had
10 boards to go along with three steals. Senior
Whitney Williams added 10 points, while junior Jill Cropper
added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Shawnee State maintained a
lead for much of the first half, but the Wildcats stayed
close and were able to tie the game at 31 going into the
break. The second half was a battle, with the Bears
down by as much as 6 points before they tied the score at 55
on a 3 pointer by Whitney Williams with 4:40 remaining in
the contest. Shawnee State finished the game on a 13-0
run to defeat the Wildcats. Shawnee State had three
players in double-figures as Whitney Williams led all
scorers with 18 points. Sophomore Abby Ballman added 12
points, five rebounds, and six assists. Catrice
Mitchell came from the bench to add 10 points, seven
rebounds and a blocked shot. Sarah Soroka led the

Point Park began the game
on a 9-0 run, but the Bears came back and tied the game at
15 apiece. Both teams battled and forth and Shawnee State
stretched a 38-32 lead at the break. The Bears
controlled the second half and was up by as many as 10.
The Bears clinched the win as they hit 4-of-6 in the final
minute of play. Shawnee State had three players in
double-figures as senior Mallory Albers led all scorers with
25 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore Abby Ballman added 18 points, six rebounds, and
three assists. Senior Alison Meyer had 15 points,
eight rebounds, and two assists. Brittney Wilson led
the Pioneers with 14 points and Ashley Henderson tallied a
double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. April
Austin and Kristen Veseleny each added 10 points for the
Pioneers. Shawnee State shot 49% (28-for-57) from the

19 points, six rebounds, five blocks, a steal, and an

women's basketball bounced back as they defeated Ursuline
College 95-62 on Tuesday evening. Shawnee State never

half. The Bears continued to dominate the game as they
outscored the Arrows 44-29 in the second half to tally the
final score of 95-62. Five players scored double
figures for the Bears. Senior Alison Meyer led the
Bears in scoring as she tallied 18 points to go with a team
high eight rebounds, and three blocks. Senior Mallory
Albers added 13 points and seven rebounds. Junior Jill
Cropper had 12 points in the game, while freshman Alex Pohl
and Keilee Guthrie added career highs of 12 points and 11
points for the Bears. The Arrows were led by Brittany
Nair's 22 point performance. Laura Campbell and

prove to be costly for the SSU women's basketball team as
they drop a second straight American Mideast Conference
match-up on Friday night against Walsh University 61-64.
Down 28-41 at the break, the Bears battled back, down by
only 2 with just over 7 minutes remaining. Unfortunately,
the Lady Bears were unable to ever gain the lead in the 3
point loss. Mallory Albers led the Bears in
scoring with 20 points and added 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3
steals. Alison Meyer had a double-double with 14
points and 14 boards, blocking 3 shots on the night.

NAIA Division II #4 ranked Shawnee State women's basketball
lost their first American Mideast Conference game this
season as they fell 77-75 to Notre Dame College on Thursday
evening. The Bears end their streak at 23 consecutive
AMC wins, that began back in an overtime win over Cedarville on
February 19th, 2008. Much of the first half was a
back-and-forth battle for both teams, however after being
tied at 23 with about seven minutes left, the Bears finished
the first half on a 18-11 run to take a 41-34 lead at the
half. Notre Dame came out strong after the break and took a
49-47 lead at the 16:27 mark in the game. The Falcons
stretch the lead to 10 with 7:00 remaining in the game.
The Bears got with one to the Falcons on two made free
throws by senior Mallory Albers with 3:15 to go in the game.
Shawnee State had their chances to win, but a pair of missed
shots and a pair of missed free throws left the Bears short.
Shawnee State saw four players in double-figures as senior
Alison Meyer led all scorer's with 23 points as she went
9-for-12 from the floor and made five free throws for the
Bears. She also tallied seven rebounds and had two
assists in the game. Sophomore Abby Ballman had 17

defeated Georgetown College 91-72 to avenge their loss
earlier this season to the Tigers.
Shawnee State dominated most of the first half as they

and then stretch their lead to as many as 18 with 6:30
minutes remaining in the period. Georgetown cut the
lead as they finished the half on a 16-8 run to tally the
score at 40-30 at the break. Shawnee State didn't let
down in the second half as the Bears poured in 51 points as
they went 19-30 from the floor for 63%, behind senior
Mallory Albers' 20 point second half. Nine players scored
for the Bears and four posted double-figures. Albers

including 21 in the second half. Abby Ballman scored

the top rebounder for the Bears with 7 and also scored 7

behind victory to upset NAIA Division II No. 2 ranked Lee
University 73-70 in overtime. The Bears were down
39-27 at the break, scored 34 second half points to tie the
game at 61 and force overtime. In overtime, the Bears
outscored Lee University 12-9 to pull of the upset.
Shawnee State had three players in double-figures and senior
Mallory Albers led led the Bears as she poured in 29 points

The Bears returned to action as they beat
Concordia University 95-75. Junior Jill Cropper led
five players in double-figures as she tallied a
double-double with a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds
to go along with four assists. Albers added 18 points,
six rebounds, and three steals. Ballman tallied 16
points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals in the
game for the Bears. Senior Whitney Williams added 14
points, while senior Allison Meyer added 10 points. Shawnee
State shot 56% from the field as they went 32-for-57 on the
floor. The Bears made 11-of-19 attempts beyond the arc

November 6 vs. Marian @ Walsh Classic |

Shawnee State opened the season as they
defeated Marian University 64-51. Senior Mallory Albers
led the Bears as she scored 20 points, tallying her 1,005 point
of her career. Albers also dished out four assists and had
two steals in the game. Sophomore Abby Ballman had a solid
game as she tallied 17 points, seven steals, pulled down five
rebounds, and had two assists in the game. Shawnee State
shot only 30% from the floor compared to 45% that Marian shot.
Marian also out rebounded the Bears 43-35. The difference
in the game was that the Bears defense forced Marian 36
turnovers, compared to 12 that Shawnee State committed. [Box
